Default RPM

I know nothing is 100 percent. I have a 535 with eagle rods with arp 2000 bolts. Dished Ross Pistons. Forged crank. If you have something similar, how high do you turn it?

All depends on you induction system and what you want to do with it. The engine makes power where it does depending on what heads, intake, carb and cam you have.
Small heads on a 535 and it will choke at relatively low RPMs. . Langers induction system want to see 9K.

Sounds like your short block is safe to 7000 RPMs. I have the same type short block and 7000 is no problem. The cam, heads and induction system will dictate the rpm and the short block is built to handle it. Have fun

Top flows enough. I just wanted to know how high others are turning theirs. This is my street engine that's in my race at now. My converter was built for my race engine so it's a little loose. I've been limiting it to 6000 or so but need to turn it about 6600.

6600 isn't even pushing it. I doubt it would even blink at 7600 really.

With the strengh of those reciprocating parts and there weight, 7K is cake as long as the valve train is up to it!

Not apples to apples but with 4.250 stroke crank i was turning 8300rpm with eagle rods, i'd think 7500rpm with a 4.500 should be a problem.

Why are so many ascared to run 7k and higher?
My older brother was run'n 7k back in the late 60's/mid 70's.
Yes, with Pontiac blocks and heads. Cant believe people act like its something new...

Who's scared? I just wanted to know a reasonable limit. I too was turning a Pontiac that high in the 70's and 80's. But with a 4.21 stroke and SD rods. I also scattered several over the years.
