Default deluxe door panels

Is anybody producing better quality panels than PUI?
From what I gather, the PUI stuff doesn't fit well.
Opinons appreciated.

Larry I put PUI(who I think most folks sell) on the 81. The only fit issue and fairly big was the holes in the cardboard for the push in clips were all off. Why since I used the old 81 panels on the 79 Camaro and they fit perfect I do not know. Seems a GOOD template for an actual door could have fixed it when they made them. Otherwise look and trim was all identical and window sweep was OK.

Looks like Legendary is offering panels now so I'm going to find out if they are PUI or their actual product.

What I did with the PUI panels was install them with fel cro tape. The holes
for the clips were way off and I couldn't use them. The fel cro worked great...they've been
that held on that way for fourteen years.

Did you mean Velcro?

Noticed the legendary door panel offerings BF...based on their poor / vauge discriptions & images...not certain the correct grain color "blotching" used on non-black and white colors?

Are Legendary panels w correct "mottled appearance" likel door panel below?

I'm installing A body panels right now. What a great idea!...assuming you mean velcro...Would have saved me some time with the x-acto knife....

Default LEGENDARY DOOR PANELS

before LEGENDARY came out with there own fully assembled door panels I bought a set from P.U.I..TOTAL JUNK WITH WAVES AND FAKE STITCHING...anyway the LEGENDARY ones are made just like o.e.m and I believe them to be as comparable to original G.M....I would believe that the 78 to 81 door panels would be the same

Yes, sorry, I meant Velcro. On the A-body panels the holes are not off as far and
on them I always increase the length of the clip holes with diagonal cutters. I've never seen any PUI door panels for 2nd gen birds that I could modify to use clips on them and get a satisfactory fit.

Dangit! Another great idea. Doing it as I did with the x-acto was dangerous. Easy to punch a hole in that beautiful new door panel covering.
You are correct that the A-Body panels were not bad at all. The vent-window crank hole was off enough that I had repair one to keep the 'crescent moon' from showing above the window crank but as for the clip holes, I only had to elongate maybe three total.
Legendary makes an absolutely beautiful product in my opinion. One of, if not the best major repop product I've had experience with on this restoration journey of mine.

With so many nice survivor panels on both A & F body cars, its amazing to me that aftermarket companies can't make these panels spot on. they are not that complex & they don't need to guess at where the components go. Door clip locations should be near the top of the list of whats important in production. So many aftermarket parts are close, but off just enough to make you scratch your head & wonder.

In the case of Legendary and my one experience with their door panels, everything that was off was off to the short side...that is, the holes had to be elongated to move the clip further 'into' the cut. They may do this as opposed to taking a chance of having them off the other way since there would be nothing to attach the clip to if they were too low. In other words you can't shorten the cut. You can always elongate it.

Default LEGENDARY VS. P.U.I.

LEGENDARY has some n.o.s.2nd Gen seat covers & door panels for sale..so they definately did there homework...P.U.I. in my opinion had alot of nerve selling there so called version of a factory door panel..I will trash them until they hopefully go out of business..and I will praise the LEGENDARY products I got forever!..I was able to upgrade my 72 T/A standard black interior to deluxe (complete with dash handle grap) and I think it looks as good (just new) compared to original interior cars

I have a set of these NOS material seat covers, however I don't think they are from legendary. I will need to check who made them for me.

a bunch of years ago there was a company that was making the 2nd generation seat covers & they had a roll of the NOS camel cloth material & at that time I was told they had just enough to do one full set. I took them up on their offer & paid a premium price for them. I Still have the covers in a box in my basement.

If I remember correctly the oem fabric had a different backing & I believe I compared the material when I got the covers & it was the same as my original seats, just non-faded. My Memory is a little fuzzy on this.

Happy to post pictures for debate. Hopefully they are what I paid for.

Could be this material was in abundance & I wasn't the only one getting the very end of the OEM cloth. I wonder how this stuff re-surfaced again otherwise.

Default 1978 to 1981 seat covers & door panels

certainly the Firebirds moved into new territory with the fuzzy seat covers and redesigned door panels...I believe the n.o.s.door panels are original GM as the parts counter did sell door panels & seat covers but in 1981 I tried to order 1970 to 72 door panels and the parts guy laughed..he said they was only available in limited amounts each production year...I can only speak for LEGENDARYS 1972 seat covers & door panels...but a 1979 gold T/A with gold fuzzy seats would be nice..and the fuzzies prevent your ass from sliding when you use your WS-6 package
