Default The Real No. 88 Dodge Daytona Has Been Found

It has been found that the '69 Dodge Daytona No. 88 that turned the first closed-course lap in a test session at Talladega on March 24, 1970, driven by Chrysler test driver Buddy Baker, and sitting in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame is not the real deal.

Shame on them.

Thxs for the link and interesting story.

Besides being my 10th birthday, that's quite a significant historical date:
"They would go up to about 120 mph with the low-speed car," says Greg. "It'd been used pretty hard. It wasn't really mechanically sound to go any quicker. Whatever they'd developed on that car, such as the nose and the wing, was put on the No. 88 car to test it at faster speeds. Once they had their entire package, they prototyped it on the high-speed car, and on July 20, 1969,the No. 88 Blue Daytona ran 205 mph at the Chelsea Proving Grounds on a closed 4.71-mile track."
Hint: something about a guy named Neil walking on the moon...

That is a lucky find and good story. As a kid Buddy Baker was my favorite driver. Now I don't watch.

Daytona's and Superbird's are one of my all time favorite cars ever! I'll never be able to afford one, but those are some serious machines.

Great story!

Why would you say that? And I hope you mean the phony one in the museum, not the real No. 88.

No. 88 and the cars before were the real deal for NASCAR. To me the cars racing today are thrown together junk and have nothing to do with the manufacturers, as was the main objective back then. Factory race teams today... my a$$.

I think you may have missed the point that was meant as a positive not a negative. Perhaps you haven't seen an episode of Graveyard Carz the MOPAR restoration tools?

Hate the plot and BS dialogue but they turn out some pretty sweet ICONIC MOPAR restorations.

Nope, I haven't seen or hear of that show until now. We don't get Graveyard Carz on the cable channels we get.

Here's an option http://www.yidio.com/show/graveyard-carz

If that doesn't work for you, perhaps one of these will work "4U" ==> http://www.bing.com/search?q=graveya...14ee&FORM=QBRE
