Default Brake lights on '66 Goat

Anyone tried using a 3rd brake light from an 04-06 on our 66 GTO's? Been fighting with my tail / brake lamps for a while and while they all work as they should, you really can't see them very well in bright sunlight due to the stainless eyebrows we have. So I was wondering if anyone has added a third brake light to their setup, preferably from an 04-06 GTO (I want to keep her all GTO)

I have 05 GTO seats in her and they are GREAT !!

Rick, go to PepBoys and look for the 5" L.E.D. Flex Lite by Pilot, part number CZ-179R. I have one in red but it's not installed yet. Charles [Old Goat 67] put the same in the rear window of his 67. It looks and works great.

Charles stuck his inside and slid it under the top trim of the rear window. The back side has sticky tape on it but it won't do you any good. I forgot how he attacked it but can find out for you this weekend after Christmas. Connect the wire to the brake light's wiring that runs under the inside of the left rear qtr panel. Remove the rear seat to run the wire around the window trim and into the trunk.

I'd like to see a picture when you get it installed so I can determine if it's worth the work.

Thanks

I'll have Charles post a photo when he gets back home. That should be in a week or so. As for me, my car is put away and I won't be able to get to it until I can get it out again.

BTW just to be honest.... and as you can see Rick, I haven't gotten it installed yet. That's why the photo of it still in the package.

And from seeing it in Charles' 67 GTO, it's well worth the work. I just hope PepBoys still carries them. It only cost me 5 bucks.

I will definately check to see them at Pep Boys. I am however, leaning toward the third light from a 2004-2006 GTO if it will fit on my package tray. I want to keep the car 100% GTO

Hi , its mandatory to have a 3rd brake light over here , when you wire it up you should run a separate wire all the way up to the brake light switch on the pedal , if you take the feed off your rear harness the 3rd light will start flashing when you have the turn signal on ,
the brake light switch has a live terminal and a switched terminal , connect to the switched side , hope that helps , http://www.hella.co.nz/en/products/?keywords=high+stop

CF, all you have to do is find the brake light wire at the rear. That will work as it did for Charles. Just make sure you don't tap into the signal light wiring. They are separate from each other, but bundled together. Just split them apart so the brake light wire is separated where you tie in the 3rd brake light wire. No need to run a wire all the way up front to the switch.

Oh ok , most of the US cars i've worked on use the same wire for the turn/brake light , just a left and right one

You're wrong on that one Gary. You must do as Cowfarmer said and run a wire to the rear from the brake switch. Only has L & R wires from turn signal switch back there originally.

Sorry CF for the errors of my ways. You were right all along. I've now learnt the proper way to wire it.

I concede Charles.... I was wrong. I misunderstood you when you told me how you wired yours up.
