Default "Un Restored" 67 GTO on E-bay

I hope this is no one here's car but I see several oddities and I am a novice car guy. Since when does unrestored and repainted go hand in hand? Also, is the fan guard correct for an A/C car? If it is, my car is wrong.

Good thing the original '400-4' air cleaner decal is still intact.

Edelbrock Torker II intake was a factory option back in '67 from what I've been told.

Car is a joke!!!!! What's unrestored about it? Wrong steering wheel, rally wheels, intake, carb, dust, coil, air cleaner, rad cap,red emblems, exhaust, probably not a black car either. It's amazing to me what people believe what's original anymore.

It's not unrestored... it's seen a repaint. No original paint ever had a shine like this paint does with clear coat. Air cleaner is wrong. And there's that 400-4 decal again.

As for the fan guard being correct or not.... it's too confusing for me to get into.

Not the unrestored original steering wheel either. And certainly not the original rims. Those are definately 15s.

Let's see what happens as it's been reported to eBay.

Unrestored since it's last restoration?

exactly. I like the slotted screws holding the fan guard onto the core support.

A nice looking car, but far from a completely original car, and also a far from perfect car. Car dealers are all full of sheet.

Every unrestored car that pops up these days puts mine to shame, maybe I'll just go ahead and restore it. Just joking btw. This is a fine example of a misused and abused word.

As far as I'm concerned, "repainted" has never equated with "restored" to me. It would be different if he was claiming it to be all original.

The fan shroud is visible below the "guard". There's plenty of modifications to the car, I'm not sure whether that means it's been "restored".

If a car has had a repaint, does that mean it's "restored"? I've owned my '67 since 1981, it was repainted the original color when I got it. The engine was (is) original, had original vinyl top, interior, etc., there were a couple of minor adaptions made by the previous owner - speakers in the package tray, a compass above the mirror, etc. The car's this way now, is it "unrestored"? I'd say yes because it's never been restored. It it a "survivor"? Based on having had a repaint, I'd say the answer is "no".

The ebay car is unquestionably more modified than mine. I'm still not sure if it's "restored", it's definitely not a survivor.

I also don't see how it could win in a concours evaluation, there's far too much that's not original for it to score well.

Just another car thats been modified. How about that intake? coil? monkey radiator cap? wheels? steering wheel? red brake drums? Reman wiper motor (at lease get the yellow ink stamp off) Red GTO lettering, goofy braided looking hoses, scotch-lok at the Voltage Regulator, steering wheel, must still have the original rear main seal, see that drip pan. At least it looks like it has the OEM battery cables, but lose that crap battery. Looks like a "Best in the Parking Lot" award winner from Saturday Night at the Hangout. Concours? how is that even possible? I guess everything has not been replaced yet and that makes it unrestored. ; )

Didn't know they made red GTO scripts for the quarter panel....
I believe the consensus was no finger guard with a A/C car in a previous discussion on here.

There are plenty of embellished ads on e-Bay. A seller just posted an ad for a 1966 GTO that stated " Body is straight and in excellent condition with no rust with the exception of a hole on the driver's side floor and in the trunk...." Yet the pictures clearly show rusted through sheet metal on panels and the rear wheel wells. It's a nice car that would sell any day even with a brutally honest description. I don't understand this.

The guy "fixed" the bent corner on the finger guard.

The way the car is optioned it I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were a factory 2 bbl car.

I see he added this to the ad-
Quote:
Let me add, all parts that have been removed or replace off of the car are included with the car this includes the correct air cleaner and any other parts.
Boy, you guys are TOUGH. It's an awfully nice looking car. I'd change just a few things about it if it were mine but I'm just saying...Nice car!
It would help if he'd display the PHS and Concourse is definitely not the right word to use for it...but as Steve pointed out...big difference in saying something is all original and saying that it's unrestored.

I've been conversing with this guy thru eBay. He's saying a repaint is not considered a restoration. I told him he dead wrong. If it's not the original paint that came on the car from the factory then it IS restored.... it's no longer original whether it's the original color or not. Anyone that thinks different is only kidding themselves. He's not a bad kid just uninformed and not too savvy about this stuff. With all that's messed up with this car I can't believe the bidding is up over 28,000. Hell, I should auction mine off and try for 45,000. LOL

As for the change in his ad I told him he'd better off telling the buyers that parts he removed or replaced would go with the car.

Sorry Gary, I agree with the guy. I don't know what the 'according to Hoyle' definition of restored is but somehow I think it's more than a paint job.
My old '68 VW had a blue hood, a primered fender and a 30 year old repaint over the rest of it that looked like it was put on with broom. Somehow, I never thought it was restored. Worn out more like it.
If I take my 'rode hard and put up wet' Dodge P/U with hail dents, hanging headliner and 290,000, etc. to Earl Scheib and tell him to spray it, it's then restored?
