Bilstein yellow- Paint or leave it
Hi All, getting ready to install my new Bilstein shocks as part of my front end rebuild. What to you guys think- Paint em correct color gray or leave em yellow. Those lower bolts and nuts look hard to reinstall, gonna check the forums. thanks Neil

I just checked my chassis manual and it looks like the lower nuts are on a retaining clip. Do i need to get these or is there a trick to getting a wrench on the top side in the spring cavity. Thnks

Gray,black.bright yellow on an older car screams "look new shocks" lol there is a lower shock bolt kit i used,like a fender fastner.PITA trying to fish a nut and bolt then try to get a wrench on the ones near the spring.

If I were in your position I would paint them grey or black. The last thing you want to do is put them in only to decide you don't like the yellow and have to remove them and do it all over again.

Since you should be driving and not looking at the shocks leave it alone and move on.. .unless this is some period correct restore you really have to much time if you worried about the color of shocks, which is a part you will replace at some point anyway.

The forum allows you or me to get opinions from people that have done similar projects already and no i dont have to much time on my hands quite the opposite but i only want to do it once and no i dont plan on replacing these shocks again.Thanks for your thoughts though

Paint 'Em
Paint them shock grey. I have always disliked bright coloured shocks that somehow become a focal point on the vehicle. The grey will make them "blend in" to the rest of the chassis, not stand out like a sore thumb...

I'd leave them yellow.
Get some new clip nuts, the factory used them for a good reason. KYBs I later replaced with Bilsteins. You can only really see the front shocks with the car jacked up off the ground, with the car on the ground you can't tell what color the shocks are on the car. I suppose if you lay on your back or get down on your knees you could see what color they are.

I say Yellow too. Looks sharp with some contrast under there. I left my KYBs white... no big deal to me. Tho maybe I'll pull em out and paint em yellow.
Besides, most people don't go crawling around under someone's car to see what color the shocks are. I sure as hell don't. Now if it's a concours car then paint em gray.

If you want to keep the stock look, paint them gray. I like to make everything look as OEM as I can. That sway bar link should be tighter than that.

I think you should paint them blue,then drag them around a stone drive way,squirt some oil on them and this way they will look old but perform new.
I installed a set on my 69 GTO this summer and left mine the original colors they came with. I want mine to be the only ones that look good ......go ahead and rough yours up.

I painted my KYBs grey. But, I did a frame off and wanted a stock look.

Paint them. Leaving the yellow isn't going to look good against a car that is more correct. They'll stand out like zits unless your car is covered with a bunch of colors other than stock.

Good eye on the links, i havent had a chance to tighten up yet, it seems every new piece i put on im hesitant to do so until im sure there right. Guess i wont know everything until i get to drive it.

I too prefer to use the Grey on the shocks to make the underside appear factory,
but with a rear sway I guess it's a moot point

Thanks for all your opinions I think im gonna go gray, i bought a can a while back to spray some existing air shocks anyway.
