Default 1108353 Starter

Does anybody have a good picture of a starter for 69 Judge (1108353)?

I have seen several conflicting piece of information on how they came originally.

Does it have Slotted or Phillips head Field Coil screw?
Does it use two long bolts to mount or one short and one long?
Does it use a long or short solenoid and was it painted Black or had the zinc finish?
Is the end plate painted or bare Steel?

The very large screws on the outside of the starter are Phillips on mine (I believe this is what you are referring to.)

It appears to mount with two long bolts, and that is what I remember from years ago when I had it out.

I am not sure of the length of the short/long solenoids, but it appears to be long when comparing it to pictures of starters. I cannot jack up the front of the car right now to measure it well. (And the heat shield covers most all of the solenoid. It appears long also.)

I am not positive on whether the end plate was originally painted since most of the original paint was gone by 1979 when I got the car.

Here is an interesting tidbit. I have just a few inspection marks that I have found on my car, but 2 of them are two circles of yellow paint sprayed on the starter.

I want to take it out and have it restored since it could spin faster. Who is the best on the east coast? John Pirkle maybe?

Thanks for the reply, I found an old thread with a pretty good picture. It is exactly as you remember. The end plate could go either way and the 69-74 Pontiac Parts Catalog listed the Pole Shoe Screw (I originally posted as the field coil screw) as a part number 1970469 was originally a slotted screw but they made a running changed to phillips type sometime around that 69 time frame. I ended up painting my end plate black to match the starter case. (One less thing to rust) and went with the slotted screw. I have also heard great things about Pirkle.

If someone wanted the end plate bare, Boshield might do a good job of keeping it nice for a while.

My starter is a November 1968 1108353 starter with the phillips screws so I assume the change was made by then. I think the build dates for these might not be too many.

Your picture looks right on to me. I believe these starters are very hard to find from what I have heard.

I thought your question would get another response or two. Maybe that is testimony to how many cars have an original starter.
