Default Valve Cover Issue

I need to add a 3/8" spacer in order to raise up the original '65 OEM valve covers so they can clear my roller rockers. I can either "glue" the spacer to the head or use a gasket. I'm undecided on which way to go. Any opinions on this? Thanks a lot.

If you can use a thick gasket alone, I would Permatex it to the cover, let dry over night before installing. I have gone to this b/c it is easier if you have to remove the valve cover.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what to put on the head to keep the things from sticking there, I would love to know. I have not had as many Probs with the cork gaskets, but neoprene or whatever it is do not fare so well. I have been able to re-install cork ones like this, but 50/50 on rubber.

I just got done doing this on a 66 389 that had '16' heads on them. The 389 covers would hit the rockers. I glued the spacers to the head with permatex and glued the gasket to the valve cover with same. I have not run the engine much, but have taken the valve covers off a few times to adjust things. Works great and have not had any issues with sealing.

or buy a set of RA 4 repops

I know they are the wrong style but work without modification;

I used them on my GTO with Roller Rockers.

Patrick
ps buy the RA 4 bolts to go along with them.

So today, I decided to address this job. I used Permatex' s "the Right Stuff" to glue the spacer to the head. Then, I used a Felpro 1/4" gasket(cork/rubber) under the valve cover. I didn't glue the gasket to the cover. Only time will tell if I have any leaks or not. Thanks for your advice. Peter
