72 Formula 400 Build
Several years ago I purchased this car from Joe(MoJo) here on the forum. Joe had set it up for racing in the Muscle Car Challenge series. He put a race motor, trans, and rear end in the car. Fortunately, he kept the originals and they were included in my purchase. I will be putting all of the original items back in the car and hope to create what looks more like a survivor than a full blown restoration. The car is solid but needs paint and interior. I am sure I will have some questions and parts requests as I progress. Here are some pictures of the car:

A couple of questions and a parts request.
1. I found a 3 pronged temp sender in the parts box. Does this go in the passenger side head near the rear? 2. Do I plug the water jacket hole on the driver side head? 3. How many wire tabs should there be on the intake side of the valve cover bolts and where do they go? Parts request for engine hardware. I need most of the hardware for mounting everything to the block/heads. I would rather not use hardware store pieces. I have valve cover and water pump bolts. I need the following: Timing Cover Long Bolts (6) Water Pump to Intake Long Bolt(1) Intake Manifold Bolts/Studs (10) Carb Bolts/Studs (4) Throttle Cable Bracket (2) Choke (1) Vacuum Valve (1) Fan/Water Pump (4) Crank Pulley (4) Oil Filter Housing (3) Thermostat Housing Bolt/Stud (2) AC Bracket to Intake (1) AC to Head What I really need is a rust locked engine to steal the hardware from. Any help is appreciated. I have a ton of body hardware from a couple of cars that I sent out for cleaning and phosphate. None of that will help me now. Happy to trade or buy. Thanks, Tom

Can I get confirmation that these are the correct parts for my '72 Formula 400?

Pictures 3,4 and 5 I am pretty sure are for your Transmission Controlled Spark TCS. 3 prong goes in the front of the intake manifold water jacket, 4 goes on the rear of carb, 5 mounts on the tranny.
6th picture is idle solenoid which mount on the front drivers side of carb. 7th looks like the metal bracket that is part of the bracket on the passenger front side of compressor to hold one of the metal lines.

If '72 is the same as '71, the three prong unit goes in the right side of the intake manifold (left side if you are facing the engine from the front of the car). The temp. sender, which is one prong, goes in the left side of intake manifold.

Pic. 1: Filter housing looks to be cast in Oct. '71, so may be original.
Pic. 2: Rear carb. fitting looks to be from a 2 barrel carb. Pic. 3: Would need to see numbers stamped on side to know if original. Pic. 4: I believe it bolts to intake, PS rear. Isn't pic. 5 an oil pressure sender unit (idiot lights)? Last edited by Held for Ransom; 07-02-2014 at 01:14 PM. |

Thanks for the responses.
I don't think 71 and 72 are the same. 72 has the thermovac switch that mounts in the front of the intake. I am not sure where the 3-prong and 1-prong temp senders go, but I assumed the side of the heads. I believe I have everything figured out except the temp senders. I also don't know if the vacuum tee for the carb base is correct or not, but it is the only one that was with the other '72 parts.

#5 screws into the back of the LH Cylinder Head and is a temp sender for the TCS system.
