I suspect, like many of you, when I was restoring my 1974 SD I decided to install the faster ratio steering gear internals into my original box (seemed like a good thing to do). Overall I'm happy with it however I did notice that the turn signal more often than not wouldn't cancel after making a turn. I assume this is due to the faster steering box (2/1/2 turns lock to lock rather than 3 1/2). Anyone else experience this and did you come up with a solution? I've looked around for cancel cams from a later TA but they don't seem to be that widely available anymore. Suggestions appreciated.

Are you sure the cancel springs aren't broken, or messed up. The faster steering in my opinion should not make a difference. On mine if I turn a turn signal on, I only have to move the steering wheel barely a 1/4-1/2 turn and back and the signal cancels. So the fact that you lost a full turn over all I can't see that making a difference.
Maybe someone else knows for sure and will prove me wrong. ![]()

As pepi says, your problem is likely in the column...broken cancelling springs are a common issue...
