Thumbs up One man hood hoist

I was looking for a engine sling and ran across this devise on Amazon.
Bought it cheap enough...$83.00..I have a homemade one but not that great.
Always have to round up two strong guys to remove hood off my 60. It's large and HEAVY. Thought I'd give a try. Attaches to the cherry picker..
Will be pulling motor soon...
Just thought I'd pass it along..

I like it. There's been a few time I could have used one of those. Never knew anyone made them. Thanks for the photo.

Never though of it but that would be easy to duplicate. It's a great idea. After a back operation in 2005 I built a block and tackle system off of the shop rafters to pull the hood off of my Firebird. Worked great--until I tried to use it to put it back on. It was fine until I rested the rear on the hinges and the hood slide and the very edge of the hood just tapped the windshield---CRACCCCCKKKKKK--. The one you just showed Troy would have saved a LOT of swearing!!! LOL!

What a great idea! I used to do it alone all the time. Never hurt myself but I know it could easily happen and I won't do it any more.

Guess I never knew how lucky I was to have a shaker hood - nice handle in the middle for one man hood pull.

Yeah..I used to do stuff like that until 3 shoulder & 5 back surgeries later not to mention But the damn hood on 60 weighs like 140-150 lbs IIR.

I noticed the art work on box ..

In the past I could remove and install the steel hood on my Firebird alone, without help. I doubt I would even try it alone anymore. Now it has a fiberglass hood, which is easy to lift alone.

I wish I could remove/install the canopy on my truck alone. I wonder if such a device exists for a truck canopy?

Troy thanks for sharing. I may need to get one as I need to pull the hood off of the pick-up. Not as young as I used to be and my knee won't let me handle heavy stuff like that anymore.

My wife would appreciate that. I think it takes a couple years off her life when she helps me with that task!

Just ordered one from Amazon. I need to replace my hinges, and if it works as advertised, I can do it myself and not have to bother my friends to help out.

Thanks for posting PMD1969. Just got back from B'fast. I got mine from Amazon and got free shipping. Had to pay some sales tax...
Haven't used it yet but it looks like a much improved version of my homemade one.
Hope to hear any updates myself...

Funny!

I asked my wife to do a brake bleed with me once. In hindsight I would rather drop a hood on my foot than go through that again. She is not a patient and abiding person. It was the last time I asked for her help on car stuff.
