Cool 66 2+2, finally here!

My 66 Martinique Bronze 2+2 has finally made it home.
So many obstacles put in my way, the biggest one was hurricane Sandy
This has been a 2 1/2 year journey since I first bought this car, and finally getting it HOME!
It is definitely a project car for sure, but I have enough "SPARE" parts to put it together.
Too highly optioned a car to not try to bring her back.
It has the base 421, 338HP, TH400, power steering, brakes, windows, cruise control, automatic Climate Control, tilt, 3.08 posi, headrests with passenger side recliner and a few more I can't remember right now
And RUST
I'll bring it inside on Saturday to see how it looks underneath before I make any major commitment to restoring her.
For now, I'll just sit in her and DREAM

A few more photos.
It's dirty from sitting and the drive from Iowa, but at least it's here!

Cool 66 2+2 PHS

Thanks John
Yes, it is a major project
Getting the PHS was the first thing I did before I paid for it
I had registered it with Jack on the 2+2 Registry when i originally bought it almost 3 years ago.
It's listed under my screen name, Rapdron.
I kept trying to get it shipped east, but something always interrupted my plans.
Life just kept putting too many road blocks in the way. Sandy was the biggest!
My auto shop is about 75% back from having over 5 1/2 feet of water inside it.
Our summer home is about 90% finished, with just the floors needing to be installed.
That only had about 20" inside.
The "WATERPROOF" vinyl plank flooring will hopefully be finished this weekend.

I've owned a few Pontiac's, including a 66 GTO tri-power 4 speed convertible, in my 66 years, but always wanted the GTO's Big brother. A real 2+2 hardtop.

Charles, you are an inspiration to all of us here on PY!
A Martinique gold car with a black interior is definitely a great color for a 66 full-size.
I think Keith Vrabec has a GP in this combo.

2+2's are sweet. Nice options you've got there, Rapdron. Good luck with the restoration.

Default 66 2+2 PHS

The view from underneath the car was a little sad to say the least.
The good, everything except the fuel tank is there.
The bad is that I am glad I have a spare frame I purchased a few years back.
The engine does turn over, but it might be until next weekend that I may try to start her.
The A/C compressor is missing (have plenty), and the under hood cruise control parts are MIA.
I bought a complete set-up that I found from another PY member Noel aka nmoreilly, so that shouldn't be a problem.
I just hope Joeg is still around to ask a lot of questions about the ATC & the cruise control.
A lot bigger project than I had hoped for, but completely restorable.
I didn't realize that it has a wood sport steering wheel until I looked at the PHS.
Cracked and faded are being polite!
At least the interior is complete, although a BIT tattered!

OK, I have to keep telling myself, this is my Dream car.

I have a few more photos of some parts that MAY get installed along with the cruise control parts I have in stock.
Can you tell that I've been waiting for MY car for a long time!

Hi Charles
That knob is for the cruise control
This car has a lot of options, which is why I really wanted to get it.
All my other Pontiac's were under water from Sandy, so I needed something fresh.
I bought the spare, complete cruise control parts knowing the under hood parts were missing.
Now I need to have a fire sale for some of my SLIGHTLY damp old Pontiacs
Ron

I am in the process of doing a '66 GP and am purchased a parts car and loads of extra parts ... if you need something let me know ... and maybe we can trade for parts or I'll sell for a very reasonable fee.

Thumbs up 66 2+2 Resto

Spent last week stripping the car to it's bones.
Front clip off, interior completely removed including the dash & wiring.
Inner & outer A/C & heater boxes removed, tagged & labeled all the vacuum hoses & wires.
Unbelievable how many different vacuum lines because of the A/C, the cruise control & the vacuum trunk release.
Lot of rust, a lot of work.

I just need to keep reminding myself it's my dream car.
1966 was a special year, not just for Pontiac's 2+2
Had my first date with my then girlfriend, now bride.
One of the reasons I wanted a 66 to restore.

Trying to decide if I should keep the automatic, or convert it to a 4 speed.
Not concerned about original, since it now has a 65 389 under the hood.
I just happen to have a complete 4 speed set-up that I tried to sell recently, and glad that everyone who positively wanted to buy it flaked out.

Sending my 68 428 to the machine shop to get freshened-up; will wait to see if I keep the 3.08 posi currently in her, or install the 3.42 I pulled from that 66 4 speed Bonneville 2 years ago.
I guess it will depend on if I keep the automatic, or go 4 speed.
My heart says 4 speed.
My spare boxed Catalina frame goes next week to get sandblasted and painted.
The original one was soooo bad, the doors barely closed.
Definitely will be adding the NOS dash tach I just bought along with the new cup courtesy of Ian!

It will definitely stay that gold color with a black top & interior.
It really is a great color combination........... Right Keith

Pictures will follow shortly as I decided to take off the 4th and spend this week with my bride at the Jersey shore.

I can't believe that nobody purchased the 4 speed setup. If you are going to Norwalk and bring it i'll prepay for it!!! If not, put that into your car, lots of fun shifting gears although an auto cruiser would be great also!!

Post 66 4 spd setup

Hi Brad
I was surprised, since it was a very complete, clean 65-66 4 speed set-up.
It was all there, everything you would need ;just install & start shifting.
I thought it was reasonably priced, considering I was asking far less than I had paid for the individual pieces years ago.
I just got tired of all the BS and decided to just keep it for future reference.
Glad I did. Any full size Pontiac 4 speed is tooo much fun to drive.
A 66 2+2, with either an automatic or a 4 speed, has been a dream car of mine for many years. Bucket list ?
Plus, how many of either do you actually see anymore?
Ron
