Default 70-72 trunk lid question

Refresh my memory on trunk lids.

I know 70-72 will interchange, but are there differences between the years? I seem to remember something is slightly different on the 1970 trunk lids.

Mike I may be wrong but IIRC there is a slight difference in the bracing on the underside but don't quote me on it.

Most '72's have a different inner structure... purely cosmetics.

So 70 & 71 deck lids are the same, 72 is different. Does anybody have some photos they can share? I've got several sitting around and I didn't mark the year they came off of. My cars are 72s.

Sorry. If you hold the pointer over each picture, I've labeled what I think is correct.

The one HFR has labeled as a '72 is a dead ringer for both of my '72 lids.

Thanks, I didn't think of looking at the file name. It's been a few crazy days, trying to work and get ready for the swap meet as well.

good info, made an image that's easier for people to save and reference. If anyone see more differences let me know and I'll edit and repost.

Other than it says 'Hood' and not trunk lid, not bad.

The early 70 is real early like prototype? What's the cut off? My 70 looks like the 71 and both are early models. 70 is third week of October 1969. FWIW

Here's a close up of my March 1st Build '72 GTO. These 2 holes were added for the short lived "DuckTail Spoiler".

Early '70 was used on the first month or 2 of production.
The '72 had the 2 oval cutouts on the sides and a cutout in the center by the lock. It also had a more circular hole, opposite the rectangular hole. The 1970-1 had an oval hole.
