Default 1972 Firebird Formula

Being offered to PY Members. Here's a chance to own a '72 Formula 455HO replica that you can drive and enjoy.

1972 Firebird Formula This car is a super great driver and mechanically sound to drive anywhere. You can just leave it as is and drive it or do some appearance work to make it really stand out. To take it to the next level, it will need minor body work to rear tail panel and rear lip by tail light, replacement of rear tail fiberglass panel and a fresh coat of paint (car was bumped by fellow PYer Tabob's '72 Trans Am at a local cruise night). Car will also need front bucket seats recovered and front door panels. And a set of nice 15” Honeycombs to make it look original (currently has 15x8 Rally IIs all around).
The car currently has a rebuilt 455 (1970 block) with 1972 HO Round Port 7F6 Heads, 455HO Intake, Ram Air setup, Ram Air Exhaust manifolds, Turbo 400 Transmission and a 12 Bolt Posi. A/C blows cold.

Desirable Lucern Blue color code with Y99 Handling Package. This is a California car and is absolutely Rust Free. Car was formerly owned by fellow PYer Lloyd-TX. $16,500 Contact John at (832) 205-0773 Thanks.

See link to Pics.

Yep, I sold my ol' Formy to John early last year so I could afford to go UTV'ing with my daughter, and alas now that John has re-purchased his old GTO the Formy must move on for the required garage space.

Most of you long-timers here on PY probably recall my build, but for those whom have joined up since then, here goes . . .

Let's see, where do I start???

First of all, this is a gennie "2U87T", nicely optioned, '72 Formula 400 that I "cloned" to a 455HO car. It was a true California car all it's life until I purchased it in 2001. NO RUST EVER - clean and dry. Just a bit "tired" in the paint and interior areas.

Engine (2003):

1970 GP 455 block, "XF" code, bored .049" over (4.200" bore)
Cast 455 crankshaft, stock stroke (467 CID)
Custom forged JE pistons with a small dome for a calculated 9.98:1 SCR
7F6 cylinder head castings, ported to 276I/176E flow by none other than Dan Barton
Manley 1-piece SS valves, 2.125"I/1.70"E, BB chebbie valve springs
Custom ground Bullitt 232/235 @ .050 solid lifter flat tappet camshaft
Harland Sharp 1.65:1 (true 1.73:1) full-roller aluminum rocker arms
Stock '72 HO intake manifold
Fel-Pro performance line gaskets throughout
17054910 SD Q-Jet, custom tuned and calibrated for this application by me
NOS point distributor with the M&H "Breakerless SE" electronic conversion, re-curved to my specs by Rocky Rotella, NORS coil
NOS GM Ram Air air cleaner assy and NOS GM air cleaner-to-hood boots
Repro SD exhaust manifolds by Ram Air Restorations, 2.45" outlet, gray ceramic coated
Full 2.5" X-pipe exhaust system with a Tom Hand designed single crossflow muffler, hand fabricated by Full Boar Exhaust in Arkansas. Sounds AWESOME.
SFI crankshaft damper, OEM timing cover, OEM oil pan, OEM pushrod cover and OEM rocker covers.
Has been running Mobil 1 5W30 engine oil with a pint of GM EOS since built

Dynoed at 430 CBHP @ 5100 and 530 CTQ @ 3000 on a stingy dyno, running OEM SD 2.25" outlet manifolds (NOT headers)

Powertrain:

(2003) 1969 TH400, rebuilt and modified for this build by Circle D Transmssions here in Houston
Gennie GM 1969 "L88" (8625982) torque converter, also rebuilt by Circle D Transmissions, stalls to 2700 RPM on the foot brake
Stock driveshaft with HD U-Joints
(2005) Custom ordered Moser 12-bolt axle, Eaton HD diff, 3.42 R&P, end-retained 33 spline axles w/ Ford bearings, etc.

Chassis (2003):

Stock original "Y99" coil springs, Eaton Detroit stock replacement "Y99" leaf springs (2005)
Front suspension and steering linkage completely overhauled with ALL new NORS (Moog, mostly) parts
Front brakes completely replaced with ALL new NORS parts, including rotors, wheel bearings, brand new AC-Delco calipers (later metric style), the appropriate metric front brake hoses, an AC-Delco combination valve, and a reman booster (from PY)
Rear brakes were completely replaced at the same time the Moser rear was installed in 2005. EVERYTHING new, including the backing plates
OEM "Y99" 1 1/4" front stab bar and 13/16" rear stab bar
Wheel Vintiques 15x8 Rally IIs, 4.5" BS, P255/60 Eagle GT fronts and P275/60 MT ET Street Radial rears

Misc (2003):

HVAC system was rebuilt with an NOS AC-Delco compressor, an NOS receiver-drier, an NOS POA valve and an NORS heater core. By the way, this car has the best performing A/C system I've ever experienced in an early 2nd gen F-body!
Engine and front lamp wiring harnesses were replaced with M&H harnesses, sourced from PY
Repro "FORMULA 455" front fender emblems, sourced from PY
Repro front parking lamp lenses and bezels, sourced from PY

Well, that's about all I can recall at this time.

Oops - I almost forgot. It has run a best 1/4 mile of 12.929 @ 106 MPH @ 3925#, with the original 3.08 diff!

Here's the invoice for further option info.

EDIT: Here's a thread from last year when I sold the car to John: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=719422

Hey Lloyd......which GTO did John buy? I know he's had a few over the last 20 years.
One black '70 RAIV 4 speed is one I recall, along with the silver/black '72 and the butternut '70.
