Default Anybody sell a rev limiter that you can use with stock type of HEI distributor?

I am buying one of those aftermarket red cap HEI distributors that look a lot like a stock distributor. Does anybody sell a rev limiter that you can use with the "stock like" HEI distributor?

I am not sure if the MSD 6AL box with rev limiter would work with a stock type of HEI distributor?

Of course a 6AL will work with an HEI. Best bet is to use the magnetic trigger of the HEI to signal the 6AL. You can also use the white wire of the 6AL, and use the module to trigger...but that's not the best way.

Or just buy an MSD HEI ignition module with the rev-limiter.

I sell one . Based loosely off an msd sized rev limiter.

The modules I've installed (6) to date see to be doing fine so far also...

Two of our club members have the msd module installed in their HEI's and they have worked good: MSD Module from Summit

I have a Pertronix Flamethrower HEI and a '79 W72 distributor.

Would this Mallory piece work with my '79 W72 distributor?

Yes on all 3.

The easiest to install is the Mallory it is also the most stealthy of the bunch.

Msd made 2 types.... An external box and an in distributor (Mallory type).

I've installed about 5 or 6 of the Mallory brand with no problems to date. Installed 2 of the Mallory limiters and had no issues there either.

I have the MSD under cap unit and found the rev limit to be off by 200-300 rpm. Just had to readjust setting, otherwise is OK.

I'd love to find an aftermarket module that's encapsulated like stock but has a rev-limiter. It would be an awesome addition to my Dave Ray small body HEI conversion!

Just doesn't seem to be available...yet.

FWIW........
I've had the Mallory rev limiter module in my stock HEI for around 5 years to date with no issues. Nobody knows it's there and it's cheap insurance. Easy to install.....in my eyes you can't go wrong with it.

Has anyone used the MSD 8728 external limiter?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ms...a/instructions

I have my timing perfect and if I do this, I would rather NOT crack the dizzy open and change the module.

I just bought one of these Pertronix rev limiters. It looks like a nice piece and is small enough to hide under the dash. I installed mine with velcro to the side of my glovebox liner. My engine is not in the car yet, so I couldn't comment on its performance, but it was very easy to wire up.

That's correct. There is a dial for selecting the number of cylinders and another set of dials for selecting RPMs. One dial for RPM x 1000 and another for RPM x 100, so it is really easy to set.
