On both my 70 and 72 gto neither have had a arm seals on them. I bought a set for each. Now do I install them in the engine compartment side or the tire side. Which is correct?

My 70 GTO convertible had the seal on the driver side of the inner fender well closest to the engine and the passenger side on the inside of the inner fender well.
Also when I install them I use a small drill bit for the staples. The staples are hard as .. to bend. I have use a hammer with a block of wood on the other side to help flatten them out. Some others here may have an easier way to do this. Steve

The first picture is the drivers side fenderwell. The top piece mounts from the outboard side with the staples coming through the rubbers first and the bottom piece attaches so it's between the fenderwell and the frame. These are after powder coating %60 gloss. That's how mine came apart. So it went back together the same way.

How the splash shields mounted varied at least by plant - perhaps by the individual on the line. Personally, I think they look best mounted on the wheel side of the well instead of the engine compartment side. The staples come through from the wheel side as well and then get bent over in the engine compartment. While this looks the best - I believe its also the most common factory configuration.
The way I've mounted them reuses the factory staple holes. First, I run the staples through the original factory holes from the engine compartment side. Then I use the staples to poke holes in the shields in the right positions. I mark the position of the holes using chalk on the shields. Then I remove the staples and run them through the shields first from the wheel side (using the chalk to find the holes I just made). Then run the staples through the wheel wells, and bend over the staples using a hammer.
