Went for a cruise this past weekend in the 67 GTO. All was well until the valet opened my girlfriends door with a puzzled look on his face.
I checked it out and there is a hole in the passenger door where the lock used to be! haha So I assume the clip on the inside popped off and the lock is somewhere on the road. Question is, can I buy 1 lock and have it re-keyed? I would hate to have to buy a new set of three locks. Are there any better locks out there than others? Also... I have two keys for my 67, one is square and one is oval. I always thought the square key was for the ignition while the oval key is for the outside locks (doors/trunk). But in my case, they are reversed. My square key works the outside locks and the oval works the ignition. Which are the correct key functions? |

You have the newer style key 69 and up. But the square key was for ignition and oval for trunk. Since you have to remove the door pad to find the cylinder retainer and the lock rod. I would replace all of them both doors trunk and glove box. Then get the ignition key replaced to a square one. But try a lock smith they might be able to assist in one door lock cylinder.

Ok, so you recommend starting from scratch and making it right.
Ignition Key being square while all the others (trunk, doors, GB) oval. |

If you're going to replace your locks, why not get the correct keys. From the factory '67 Pontiacs had an octagon key (with "A" code on it) for the ignition and doors. There was a pear shaped key (with "B" code on it) for the trunk, glove box, and console. I bought the cheaper set from our sponsor and wasn't happy with the shape of the stainless steel covers on the door locks (they were shaped like Ford covers. I exchanged for the premium lock sets they sell.

Yeah, ok.. thanks for the tip on the premium set over the cheaper ones.

Make sure you check that the console lock is included in a set. The PY sets can be a little deceiving if it's included or not with the same key as for the glove box and trunk.
