Did your Edelbrock heads have this casting issue?
I just purchased a brand new set of Edelbrock 87cc D port heads and both of the heads have the same problem and in the same location
On the outside top of the center exaust port towards the bottom of where one of the exhaust bolts would be there is a a jagged hole where it looks like the machine that was used to make the bolt hole went a little too deep? Did your heads have that flaw in them? Will it make that much of a difference or should I send them back for a different set? |

It means nothing. Run them.

I agree with John I don't think it will hurt anything but I also believe you spend that much money on a set of heiads you expect perfection I would send a picture of that to edlelbrock and see what they say

that's not an issue, flaw, or problem at all that is the way it is and should be so that you don' bottom out the bolt and end up with an exhaust leak ;-)

The last few sets of E-heads I received showed a lower quality in the casting and machine work IMO as compared to heads I received a few years back.

If they are all like that then I wont send them back...but if they are supposed to be cast like that then why is this done for only one of the two bolt holes that are located at the center exhaust outlet?

it has nothing to do with quality, don't focus on the fact that one of the holes is through and another is not, all the holes are drilled to the same depth and threaded for a given bolt length. The reason some may have drilled through is due to slight core shift this happens on ALL castings.

Just a thought drill out the threads on #5 exhaust....and weld a nut to your header flange and run a 12point bolt through the top down through the head through to your welded nut.........this was your "pain in the butt" header bolt becomes your easiest one yes you'll loose the ability to hook and slide your headers on installation but but your headers will still go together easier.

I knew it probably was a defect in the manufacturing process. Mine are D port.

The heads are actually better this way. Maximum threads and not having to worry about bottoming out
