Tri power carbs
I have a few Rochester 2bbl carbs, some are early 70's. Just wondering if one could use these carb's on a 66 triower intake manifold and make it work?

For the center carb maybe. But not the outboard carbs. You could rig them to work, but I would not advise it.

From what I read, and it was a lot, it is possible if you have the time. It wont look correct but should work.
Need to plug the idle mix screws Need to plug the pump shot recommended to put the thicker butter fly flaps in. Need the progressive linkage kit I'm sure there is a bunch more that I'm forgetting but those we the big thing I recall. |

It would be more work than what it's worth.... and look funny too.

Thanks It was Just a thought. I have 3 of these things lying around and thought I might be able to put them to good use . Were any of the Tri power carbs (center and 2 outer ones) used on 2bbl powered cars, or were they only used as a trio on the 6bbl intake manifold?

The "correct" '66 Tripower carbs, ends and center, were used only on the Tripower setups. The single 2 bbl. cars had a different carb than the center carb on a '66 Tripower. Functionally, those mid-60's 2 bbls. work just fine as a center carb on a '66 Tripower, but appearance is slightly different. Most noticeable is the vent above the accelerator pump on the '66 center carb.
Of the two photos below, the first one has a non-Tripower center carb, the second picture is of correct '66 Tripower carbs. Note the stainless vent on the correct center carb and the smaller idle speed screw on that same carb. Also, you may notice the accelerator pump lever on the "correct" '66 center carb is the large lever that was used with vacuum linkage, which tells us this carb came from a '66 Tripower built for an automatic transmission car. The manual trans version would have the same accelerator pump lever as on the other picture. Using the standard Rochester 2 bbl. carbs for end carbs CAN be done, but as some have stated, maybe not the right way to go. Correct end carbs can be found for $150-$250 each. They are not rare and make for a hassle-free setup.
