Default 56 dual quads

I thought I'd post a couple update pics of my 56 Chieftain.
Its been together for a few years with a 57 347, 4 speed, 3.23 gears.
The 347 leaked oil and developed freeze plug leaks this year
I rebuilt a 59 389 stock except for an 068 cam and topped it off with a dual quad setup I pieced together over the last ten years.
Got it running and road tested today, runs good, pretty responsive,

It's neat that someone will run one of those old air cleaners. SO rare even in 56 and almost never seen now. Keep it running.

What a nice looking car. I always wanted a 2 4 bbl setup but I know my right foot would like it too much

Those Batwings are just too cool. What generator bracket did you use?

Thanks for the nice words.

The setup has been a shelf trophy for a few years, after a little prodding from some friends I figured what the heck, I could take it back off if it ran poorly.
I'm pretty pleased with how well it runs.

The air cleaner is an original with one straight pot and one offset one to clear the choke.

The gen bracket is the original base and an arm out of a bucket of brackets I've collected over the years.

Was wondering if you have the setup like some 2X4 Chevy's where one carb does not have a idle circuit and the engine does most of it's time on one carburetor?
Love those Tri- Power and 2X4 batwings. One of my friends has one on his Tri- Power....sorry J-2, 57 Olds S 88, and another friend with one on his ( all 56 Eldorado's came stock with 2X4's ) 56 Eldorado.

Both carbs are hooked up direct and both have idle circuits. I've put a couple hundred miles on it, it runs well and likes gas.
It idles a little to high for me and both Idle screw are backed off the whole way, so this winter I'm going to pull them off and see if I can get the butterflies to seal a bit better.

Wonder if on the 2x4 setups the factory ever used the DAG213 on the secondary bores of the 4 barrels like they used in on the end carbs of the 2x2 setups? Sure make a big difference in the idle of 3x2 cars.

What is "DAG213"?

It's a solvent-resistant liquid sealer widely used in the aircraft industry. Rochester applied it to the edges of the top of the throttle plates on Tripower end carbs used by Pontiac, Chev, Olds, and Cadillac.

Application of DAG 213 improves the seal of the throttle plates to the carb base, reducing air leakage and improving poor idle performance of Tripower engines. Sometimes, when restoring these setups it is impossible to get the throttle plates to seal perfectly with the throttle bores. The procedure I use is to adjust the throttle plates, using the screws that secure them to the throttle shaft, until a very minimum of light is visible when sighting the throttle bores with a bright light behind. Then I use a small artist's brush to apply the DAG 213 to the edges of the throttle plates and adjacent throttle bore area. After it dries, it takes significant effort to break loose the plates from the bores, but the result is a nearly perfect seal.

Larry…..I don't know when the factory started using it, but my new 1965 G.T.O. had it, along with a caution to not soak the throttle bodies it the strong carb cleaners used back then. The first mention of it, that I am aware of was in a Service Craftsman News article about mid-year 1959. It was recommended to techs to alleviate idle problems on customers Tri-Powers……John

Very Nice Bud !!! I haven't made it over to Manassas Burger King in a while now. Do you ever cruise there? Do they still have them? I may be getting another car for a cruiser and sell 60(?) and venture over again..
Take care..

Just a short update,
I could not get it to idle below 1,000 rpm with both idle screws backed off.

When I took the front carb off to check the butterflies sealing on the bores I found a small spring on the secondary shaft un hooked not pulling the butterflies completely closed. An oversight on my part when I rebuilt the carb.
Idles good and runs great now.

Troy, Haven't been to Burger King Cruise which is only 4 miles from the house in a while, will have to make time this year.
Thanks again for the nice comments.
