Default Carter AFB vacuum port

I have a Carter AFB that I am trying to use and it doesn't seem to have a front vacuum port. It's tough to see in the picture but instead of the vacuum port on the passenger side, there is only a "depression" that is solid at the bottom.

I want to hook up my vacuum advance line from the distributor but without this port I'm not sure what my best course of action is. Any suggestions? (getting or using a different carb isn't a viable option at this point).

Do you want manifold, or ported (timed) vacuum for the vacuum advance?

If you are satisfied with manifold vacuum, the vacuum advance can be connected to any source of manifold vacuum EXCEPT the PCV valve supply.

As an alternative, depending on the casting you're working with, drill the boss for a vacuum port, press in a length of double-wall seamless steel "brake tubing" that's been PARTIALLY flared on the end (makes a good hose barb.) Seal the tubing to the casting with anerobic thread locking compound such as red 271 or blue 242 (?) Loctite.

If you want ported vacuum, you will need to do more complicated drilling, perhaps even a carb gasket modification or two.

Get an open carb spacer and drill and tap for a vac port. Been there done that and it works.

No need for drilling any part to get manifold vacuum, just get the hollow carb mounting stud.

This is what Pontiac used on a 65-66 AFB intake #6 runner carb stud.

Thanks for the advice so far - I see my picture didn't post for some reason. I'll try post it again.

I was thinking I need/want ported vacuum for my advance - it's an essentially stock '73 455 with an aluminum performer dual plane intake.

If I go with manifold vacuum I think there is an unused/plugged hole in the manifold that I could use - either that or use a spacer with a passage in it sounds like a good solution.

Good suggestion: I forgot all about those hollow studs.

Where can you get one of those hollow studs?
