1970 rear axle code
Anyone know what the 286 before the XF code means? Car is a 70 Judge. I believe the XF designates a 3.23 Safe-T-Track. Thanks!

It represents when your rear axle was assembled. October 13th, 1969. And because the numbers were right side up, it was done on the first shift.

Thanks for the reply! How do we know it is 1969? Is there another stamping or casting code elsewhere? I am guessing that is the Julian number of a year but which year?

I was assuming as you stated it was a 1970 axle code. You would have to look at the center section for a casting number and date code (but this too may be a Julian style date).

The 1970 casting number is 9799100 or 9799202 for the Nodular.
