Hyd Roller Lifters
Has anyone had success running hydraulic roller lifters in a street car. By success I mean the valve train is completely quiet. Thanks.

I wouldn't say completely quiet but no louder than a flat hyd cam. I am now happy with my comp hyd rollers. I wasn't before but the new set comp sent me under warranty has been good.

I was not happy one bit with the Morel-sourced units. Went solid on the Lemans - relatively quiet. I bought a set of Luhn's; we'll see in a few months how they work out in the T/A.

My comp lifters have been quiet after dealing with a couple non pumpers. I can't hear them over engine noise at least

Do a search Tim. Theres plenty of horror stories about Hyd Roller Lifters. I was thinking of going with them but now theres no way. The 400 I built last year used a Summit 2801 and their white box lifters. Its quiet as can be.

I ran a hyd roller in my 400 for 7 1/2 years and about 15,000 miles. I'm not sure what your definition of loud is but I can assure you the exhaust was waaay louder and I run long case turbo mufflers. My personal feeling is that my Harland Sharp roller rockers and Comp hyd roller lifters are no louder than under the hood of anybody elses Pontiac.......different noises maybe but no louder.
From the time I installed my hyd roller lifters until I pulled the 400 a couple of months ago I haven't seen them. No issues. I'm confident enough in them to have put another set in the 455 that is now under my GTO's hood.

After losing a lobe on a flat hyd cam the ONLY two options I would consider on a hot street car are comp hydraulic rollers or bu$hing type $olid roller$. but that's JMO

I am very happy with the HR in my '64 GTO. I think my roller rockers make as much or more noise as the roller lifters. The cam and the lifters are both from Comp Cams.

Comps Hyd-Rollers
Have a bunch Pontiacs running on this platform for some time now, 10 years or better, with the Comp 857's and not single issue with either running or noise!
All are 100% stock-appearing resto's and fully rollered. I wouldn't hesitate a build using them. Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. Every one we built also still has the factory dist gear's installed, even though the cams are "steel". No failures in that area to this day either! Last edited by GOSFAST; 07-11-2013 at 03:56 PM. I'm running Comp HR lifters adjusted to 8 o'clock past zero lash with HS 1.65s. My valvetrain in MUCH quieter than the Rhodes lifters I was running previously.
With the HRs I could hear the valvetrain before installing the hood, but after dropping the hood on it's pretty quiet.
