4 Speed pedal questions!
I have a 63-64 clutch pedal and linkage setup.
There is a big spring that is connected to the clutch pedal via a countershaft (on pedal assm) What is that supposed to do? It applies pressure when you depress the clutch and snaps it back up when you release the clutch. What purpose does it serve? Thanks! |

Over center spring to allow you to hold it in with less pedal pressure

...and in addition to what Tom said.... it can be a pain to remove and replace if you've not done it before.

If you are using a diaphram type pressure plate, you will need to remove the spring. That only works if you are using a 3 finger pressure plate.

To R&R the spring, remove the pedal stop on the assy mount - then the pedal will rotate (forward through) to completely take pressure off of the spring and it comes right off - reverse the process to reinstall

I have a friend that has this set up in his car and I'm betting that he has a diaphragm style clutch, because it is a massive pain to let the clutch out smoothly. Right about where that spring wants to snap the pedal upwards is when the disc starts to grab, making you look like you just started driving a stick!
Thanks for the heads up on removal, I'm definitely going to take his off. |
