Gauge Restoration
I dropped off my gauges and clock at a local gauge shop. They gave me a price to rescreen it and restore it along with the clock quartz conversion. The price quoted is $1300. That's a heck of a lot more than I expected. Does this seem like a fair price?

Hi Terry, What year make and model car were the gauges? Are they rally gauges or just the standards? You have 3 different cars listed in your signature. Are the gauges from one of those 3 cars or something else? I might be able to help.

This is for my 64. So, just the idiot lights and a clock. I checked your site and didn't see anything for sale. $1300 kills my budget!

agree, $1,300 sounds like a lot of zorts. Maybe do some other work on the car while you shop around a bit to see if you can find decent originals or another shop to compare. If that's the going rate then I guess at least you know.
Alot of shops can rebuild/clean the speedo and tach for way less $$ but maybe the rescreen and full resto is why the cost is up there. |

I did my own repairs on my 64 . I bought a non working used clock for46 bucks and repaired it for no money. If your numbers are faded and the faces are rusty , there is allways a set on Evil bay. I have seen numerous sets of gauge faces on e bay, some real nice some- not so much. |

The clock is pretty basic. A set of points closes when the balnce wheel runs the mainspring down and lets the point lever drop. When it touches , it energizes the magnet, lifts the spring, and the clock runs for about 2 minutes. Remember when the clock ran in your dads car? It would make a click or clunk after 2 minutes or so of running. That is why.
There is also a quarts conversion on E bay for 75 bucks if your clock is lunched out. Also there is a NOS clock in box with lamp etc. for 250 ish. |

just way too much to spend on idiot light gauge cluster and clock set-up .... is what i was saying . Wayyyyyyyy too much
If a seller told me he would knock 1300 off the price of the car and keep the restored idiot light gauge cluster and quartz clock ... i wouldn't hesitate to let him keep the stuff. Whether thats fair game for the labor ... sounds like a big rip off to me too . Not faktry original - but will bolt right in place - how many repop 65 Tach & Gauge clusters can you buy for 1300 ? And be high styling and profiling end of ranting |
