I'm in the process of freshening up a 59 389 for my 56 chieftain and leaning towards a
Melling SPC7 cam and lifter kit. Seems like a popular grind for a stock engine build The listing at Summit reads 63 and up. Upon searching I found one post about drilling the cam so the oil can get to the studs, I have never heard of this before, but never overhauled this old of an engine either. Is this true? Does this cam come drilled for the older engines? I plan on keeping it stud oiled as everything looks very good with little to no wear. Any help appreciated, Bud Also on a side note, this engine has a floating pickup on the oil pump, I thought that ended in 58? |

I just put one in I bought from Butler. It was drilled. I feel sure they all are from Melling.

Remember that #2 and #4 cam bearings need matching holes and aligned installation too.
