Default If you're NOT coming to get the car.....

JUST CALL!!!

So this guy HAS to buy the 69 GP project I have....OK fine, beat me up on price, get a pile of extras and call me the night before you plan to come to get directions.

I call in the am to see where about he might be, a couple hours before he's due. No answer.

So the ETA comes and goes by a few hours and he's STILL not picking up the phone?

Hope he didn't croak or something. Ya wouldn't wish that on a guy so considerate would you?

So does anyone need a 69 GP project with a bunch of extras and loaded in the trailer ready to go? And you too can beat me up on price as well....But please use your phone.

Well, if he was coming from Chicago, I would assume he'd been shot overnight.

Keith, please be careful. I've read some stories where people do this, get all the info from an owner, a list of all the parts, etc, then scope the house out for a future break-in, so please, be careful, and stay on your toes.

But most likely, the guy is just a jerk. Some guys like to call on a car, or some expensive part, and they jet their jollies by bringing a seller to the brink of a sale, then they vanish. It makes them feel like they're "in charge", like they're "rich", like they're Donald Trump, and YOU need THEM. These are narcissistic types, and in today's society, that's about 99% of all people under 30. They desperately need attention.

Good luck though, I hope the guys comes through. I hate it when people do this too!

Some guys also buy things before talking to the little "woman" and all helll breaks loose.

Hey I have been there with you.

Years ago I always said upfront we talk final price when they show up and first come
first serve. And no layaway plans for anyone.

Good Luck

Gerry

Did I ever tell you the story of one "person" here on PY who sold me a shell and then claimed it was stolen right before I was coming to get it, but SURPRISE, he offered it for sale again a short time later for triple the price. He found it.

Amusingly this used to happen ALL the time when I was dealing in Trans Am parts. I got to the point where I would give people instructions, but usually wouldn't be home when they showed up because I didn't expect them to and wasn't going to waste my time sitting around. Offended a few guys that way. Doesn't seem to happen much with the '73-77 A-body crowd or the B-body guys... yet.

It's the same mentality, and level of maturity, of kids ringing a doorbell, then running, or kids making crank phone calls. You'd think once they were old enough to drive a car, that type of behavior would be gone. But some guys never grow up, and they adhere to the "have's" vs the "have nots" attitude. They see you have something they want, but they can't afford it, so they're going to get even with you by annoying you.

Life In America folks.....

A good friend of mine used to meet buyers at a convenience store by his house.

Of course, with Google Earth that doesn't help much if they have your name and location.

I think it boils down to common courtesy. How many times have you let someone go making a turn or waved them on only to not even get a wave or acknowledgment? There are a lot of inoperative turn signals out there also.

...20 some years ago I sold a Superbird to a very nice guy (42 years old) over the phone...we talked several times and he was going to mail the check the next day...several days pass and no check...called his home and his wife answered, she had just returned from his funeral...seems I was the last person he talked to, died in the chair after the call...I later saw a couple of his cars for sale to settle his estate

Thumbs up Transport cancellations

Keith,

Every so often someone will back out of a scheduled transport
which can mess up a line of car trips ....

don't bring people to your house to buy stuff unless you've known them a long time. You never know who they are.

I don't even keep most of my stuff @ my home. I rent a garage near a strip mall where I meet up with people. The woman I rent from is super crazy about people coming by.

It may seem paranoid but unfortunately, I've been ripped off before.

Ive got to where I dont sell much locally anymore.
Just dont want the exposure.
When I do sell locally I give the the nearest commercial address for them to GPS
and meet them there, with part or if its too big I trailer it up to meeting place.
My neighbor had someone call about Camaro parts which he was into big and the
guy hit is house when neighbor was at the races.
Guy was later caught with the stuff because it all added up.
