If Pontiacs weren't my favorite, and I wasn't so loyal....
This car would be at the top of my list.
One of the very few cars (IMO) that rivals the tough look of a 70-73 Trans Am, and it had one of the nastiest engines to ever get stuffed between a pair of American-made fenders... Only 8,064 original miles on this beast. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...gn=FL0113_S116

There was a white one around here for years, local plumber owned it - had less miles than that one & boy did it sound great!

I’ve always loved the Boss '9's although today they usually are seen as 1:1 scale static models at shows and auctions.
They’re not seen being driven due to high $ value & partially bc of the reported notoriously poor running street Semi-Hemi engine. Back in the day there was a '69 Candy Red one owned by the local gear head who was an avid FORD drag racer who also frequented Lebanon Valley. 1st thing he did was install Headers and Super tune to wake up that beast! IIRC: He died in an car accident where he wrapped his TORINO Cobra around a tree and the MINT Boss sat (beside the camping trailer he lived in @ his mothers house) for over a year before it was sold. All of us local car guys would look at it every time we passed by that house wishing and hoping we could own it. Boss ‘9’s - Love 'em!! |

I'd have, if I could afford either one. A 68 Shelby GT350 convertable 302 4 speed in red. Or a BRG 66 E-Type Jag.... coupe or convertable.

67-68 and 69-70 Mustangs are what started my love for muscle cars way back when I was a kid. The Boss 429 is the meanest looking IMO.

back in early 70's my friend's cousin used to come over from new jersey every summer so he would stay out of trouble. he bought a 429 MACH I. he would take us all sumer to a future Industrial plant cul de sac and burn out and go through the gears. i did it with him many times. we lived in the country well one day butch was burnin out and blew a tire fliped the car and killed a 16 year old guy he was showin off too. butchie lived with only a scratch totaled the car. could of been any of us in the gang but that day he took a guy from town that was not in our gang. he never got into any trouble for it either. that car sure could haul a$$.

A friend of one of my co-workers bought a yellow Boss 429 Mustang in the mid 80's for $3500.

Ford understood marketing better then any other car manufacture by far. The corporate stupidity of GM limited its divisions to actually produce what should of been for Pontiac. I firmly believe that if GM marketing actually understood their market instead of being selfish with favoritism to Chevrolet, you would of had something like my car on the dealership show room floor.

Back when I was running the classic car dealership, I have driven both a Boss 429 and 302. Still makes me grin...

Then they had the Boss 429, which was under-carbed and -cammed. That wouldn't be the first motor that required modifications from the owner, but it was such a let-down to the folks on the street that its poor reputation still exists. Nope, Ford had no clue what was going on in the street. Their marketing department was good for international racing but not for the cars on the street. I much prefer the 1970s and I think this is my favorite combo: However, the rarest combo is this blue: |
