Default Counts Kustoms

Anyone see last nights episode?
1967 GTO Convertible, paid I think 11 grand for it, said he get 50 grand for it easy.

Didn't see if he sold it in the end but I didn't know they were bringing that kind of coin for a fairly stock car.

He decided it to keep the car for his collection, his money guy had someone lined up to buy it for $55k. I think they butchered that car, that thing was hideous.

I wasn't impressed with the show,GTO had the bumpers, hood scoop and door handles painted black(not my cup of tea0. I did like the two engine street rod, but when ask how they hook the two together he said a bunch of gears and sprockets and show a picture of the alternator? I like the guy and hope the next show is better.

I watched the first episode of that show and that was enough for me. The values for cars given don't seem to make any sense and there was pretty much zero coverage of any actual work on the cars.

I'd like to see the automotive version of New Yankee Workshop...no drama or highjinks, just the construction. The BBC has run a number of TV shows starring a guy named Mark Evans, where he builds or restores a car - there was one series where he restored a Jaguar E-type, along with several series including an MGB and a Land Rover (he also retored a couple motorcycles and even built an airplane.) You can find the episodes sometimes on Youtube or Streetfire, I think they're entertaining and educational. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Is_Born_series

Although I'll watch it, it's like the other shows like American Pickers, ect - when they are talking about things I know nothing about they sound like a genious, but when they talk about things I do know about they sound like idiots.

Example:

In the Dune Buggy episode they go on and on about it Being a Meyers Manx - It is NOT a meyers Manx. It's one of the other 160 manufacturers of Dune Buggy bodies's product. Not even close.

Danny says that George Barris designed the Monkeemobile off a '67 GTO - Wrong, it was Dean Jeffries who built the Monkeemobile (George Barris owns the rights to the Monkeemobile and many other custom vehicles that he gets credit for)

Also it was based on a '66 obviously.

Danny also seemed to be surprised that JZD was the creatror of the GTO. And this is the "expert" in Vegas?

The Monkeemobile/Barris gaff was obviously a researcher finding Barris's site, and feeding the info to the "expert"

All in all I'll watch it. Those Desert Valley guy's show on the other hand....

One of my guys liked the blacked out chrome. It would only look cool to me if the whole car were blacked out. Saved them a lot of money on chrome though...

I like the guy as well, but I am not impressed with the show, for the same reasons given above...plus, I could do without the fake drama. I am sure (but of course I can't prove it) that they had already arranged to keep the GTO and the "buyer" didn't exist (similar to when the desert car idiots did the Cadillac and the old guy "stops the auction" to give the car to his wife). Same with the Pawn Stars and American Pickers...I will watch them at least occasionally, but they could lose the fake stuff and just focus on the cars (or other items in the case of the other shows).

I agree the GTO would look better without the chrome blacked out, but it was a nice car. At least they didn't put a Chevy in it....

They were building a Mustang on the first (I think) show. The car had a hideous home-job interior, and the guys seemed surprised when they tore it apart and realized everything needed to be replaced. If they have EVER built a car (which obviously they have, so it's more fake drama), they would have known at first glance the whole interior needed replacing. And they said it was going to cost an extra $5000 over budget for the interior. A Mustang interior is about as cheap as they get....

Yet another spinoff show, that insults the viewers (the viewers in the know) intelligence, that won't last.

After watching some of the Mustang episode, I see he's a bigger joke than he appears to be on Pawn Stars. I would bet the finished car is not the heap that they were drooling over at the start of the show. 22K restoration, my butt.

There is really something wrong with that guys value system. He valued that ratty 68 Mustang as more value than a running 67 GTO convertable. If I saw that Mustang for sale my guess it would be a $1500 car for someone who didn't have a clue. Maybe he knew the Mustang owner LOL either way he got the money to redo the Mustang.

X2!! Danny, well his crew really messed up a nice "core" of a car. ( that GTO)
The Mustang was a act of Love, and money !
I will watch again, but damn some of it has shades of the desert kings....the Black chome on the 67 just about made me barf.. Only in Las vegas is that stuff over priced, AND people pay the price. ( the NON SS, but "SS" Camaro come to mind..)
