What kind of firearm do you have?
I know a lot of people on here have them, just curious to what people have and like. My license should be in any day now. However, being the the Cradle of Liberty, our options are a bit limited. Can't get a newer Glock unless you know someone selling it face to face(i.e. LEO or someone that got one in a similar way). I'm thinking of a S&W M&P since it's the closest you can get to a Glock, and they seem to have a good following(once you dump the Mass trigger).

Mikey,
Can't enough GOOD things about my Para GI Expert. Yes, it IS a heavy beast, but I love it!! The price was good as well.....$600. Another 1911 style pistol you might want to look at is the new Ruger 1911.

I have several handguns but the one I carry daily is the Smith and Wesson airweight revolver. With only five shots of .38 spl. +P it's a little light on firepower but it is so light and comfortable that it is easy to carry and conceal, even when wearing shorts and a T-shirt. When choosing a pistol for concealed carry there is always the trade-off. More firepower equals more weight and bulk. You have to decide how frequently you are going to carry it and how much you are willing to lug around.

Mike-take a look at what handguns you might want to carry down the road. All my carry autos are 1911 variants.Point being -familiarity.No matter what .45 i pick up,all the "controls" are in the same spot and i don't have to think about what i'm doing.

S&W fullsize M&P 9mm
S&W compact M&P 9mm Thousands of rounds thru them with ZERO failures of any kind, on any and all ammo that I've run thru them. Ergonomics are excellent with the interchangeable backstraps to fine-tune the grip. Terrific accuracy...easy follow-up shots. Eric |

Find what feels best in your hands, that matters too. The angle of some grips are different, find one that will naturally aim where you want it to. My list is too long to post, the 1911's are my personal favorite. I carry a Glock 21 at times, because of the capacity, but the 1911's are never too far away. |

Glock's are reliable, buit I've never liked them aesthetically or for the fact they have that "safety" built into the trigger.
My #1 handgun is a H&K USP-40...love it.

Same here, 642 with CT-305 grips. The others are a bit too difficult to conceal easily. |

I prefer revolvers and would highly reccomend a Ruger. That being said, a buddy bought a lightweight Taurus composite frame in a .357. I'd seriously consider one of these. Small frame, nice grips, smooth action. I've not shot it yet but I know It hides well and feels good.
For home defense I've got a Steoger Side by side Full choke 12 guage with an 18.250" barrel. Light, solid, easy to manuever and handle. Shoots well and is accurate, It's my first choice for yard nusciances. I hunt it in brush also. I'm not a huge fan of Semi Autos, Most don't fit my hands well. Mike

A good small concealed revolver is a little Rossi 5 shot 38 special. I have that and a Charter Arms .357 strategically located in my house. I am more comfortable with my wife using a revolver over a auto for home protection. There are a lot of great pistols out there, I personally love the Walthers, but my dad carried one as a detective for many years so I am quite familiar with them.

I like my PPK because it can fit in my jeans pocket. I want one of those old AMT 380's which is even smaller.
most handgun fights are within ten feet or less, so long barrel and accuracy is not a factor. Also big round capacity is also another rare need. a few shots or less usually. I do trade off OOMPH for concealabity. A big whazzooo gun is no good if you can't carry it hidden. There are some good bigger caliber smallies also.
