Default Cloth Headliner Bows

I'm about ready to install a new cloth headliner in my 1971 Trans Am. I dug through my stash of parts (getting smaller by the year!) and found five small steel rods that were labeled as headliner bows, but I'm not sure if the early cloth headliner bows were simply straight pieces of steel rod, or had curved ends on them. Someone mentioned the other day during a casual conversation to install them in the "correct position," that each bow goes in a specific place. I told them it looks like there is no correct position as all the rods are the same length! Someone please refresh my memory. Thanks!!!

the 70-73 F-body are straight rods, all the same length. Mine are 1/8" x 39"

As a side note someone also mentioned that they ordered stainless steel rods of the same diameter from Amazon for pretty cheap and cut them to length, as mine are already gone I am thinking of going the same route. He also mentioned in the thread they are all the same length so I don't think there is any "correct" position for them.

Appreciate the info. My rods are in very good shape, and don't have to be replaced.

What color is your headliner? if its NOT black, I would at least clear coat the rods. The fine rust on them can stain the seams

I do intend to clear coat the rods. They are not rusty at all! I'll just hit them with a scrub pad, clear coat them and install. My interior is dark blue.
