OHC Sprint wanted for Turbo Project
I build custom turbo kits on anything with 4 wheels. I have always wanted to turbocharge a OHC 6. The open engine bay would lend itself very nicely for turbo mounting, piping, routing, etc. I am thinking a drawthru turbo kit from a 301 would be perfect. Anybody interested? I have four turbocharged Pontiacs myself. My '96 Bonneville 3.8L V-6 made 500whp on 20psi. The OHC engine I'm sure breathes better and should react equally as well. A stock low comp OHC would not need any mods at all.

i have a ohc 6 sprint that came out of my 67 lemans and i always wanted to turbo it too just worried how much it would take. if i remember correctly the sprint engines had like 10.75 - 1 compression so it would need pistons to drop the compression down.

Turbo OHC 6
Jeff
I have a 67 230 cu in OHC 6 which originally was the lower compression (9.0:1) 1 bbl version that I have added the 4 bbl "Sprint" intake/exhaust manifolds to. I am going to transplant it into my 67 Lemans in place of the original 326 V8. I chose the the 1 bbl version so I could run 93 octane pump gas. What would it take to reliably turbo this motor for the street? It currently has a Borg Warner WC T5 mated to a 10 bolt 3.23 posi. It would be great to see what this 6 could do performance wise, but I'm totally lost when it comes to adding new technology to old motors. Let me know if I can help. Thanks Ron

You don't want the sprint head because the compression.
I'm in the process of setting up an EFI turbo engine. I'm working on the fuel rails and injector bungs right now on my test engine. Basically I'm going to use parts I have laying around to assemble a running MPI engine and install in a '69 Firebird so as I build my good engine I have references for mocking up and the EFI system is already running in the car. I'm starting with the sprint intake and exhaust manifolds on my test engine, but the good engine will likely have home made headers and a home made intake header with injectors near the ports. I plan on cramming boost into the engine until A) I can't keep a head gasket on it, B) I can't keep detonation at bay with alcohol injection or C) the ports back up with air to the point increasing boost doesn't do much but add heat to the system. I'm going to see what I can do, and I want to eventually run Drag Week with it. Probably a 2013 goal. As for comparing it to your Bonneville's engine, the V6 breaths way better than a stock OHC Pontiac head. With decent porting work it could get close. The Series II heads on the V6 are a pretty good design.

I could see a low CR build with a turbo getting close to 30 mpg in a F body, still having lots of power!
Ill be watching this thread...
