From the picture I'm not sure it has the HO frame mounts, incorrect air cleaner in the trunk and no 12 bolt. The PHS is going to go a long way on this car. Alot of the hard work seems to be done already. Looks like a great car to start with. Have to watch the price this goes for.

Wow! Hope to see PHS today..Rosewood/White has to make it even more rare. Agree with rustedgoat about rear, air cleaner and mounts. Bet there is a history on this one if my memory is correct. Lloyd can help I'm sure.

Any idea if the lien paperwork complicates things?

Actually, I am legally bound to NOT help anyone on this car, in public or in private. Sorry!

Would love to hear the story Lloyd, but it is what it is.
It does look that it spent a year in Pontiac's possession before being shipped in 1972 to the dealer. Supports the story that a Pontiac big wig drove it around. Looks like Pontiac gave the dealer a "used car price" on it.

The easiest thing to say is 4-5 or 6 years ago it was on eBay in VERY pitiful shape.
The front fenders were the only metal that had a chance of going again. And seems like it had no 455HO drivetrain intact at that time. Maybe a search on here will tell more concrete. So ... its another ultra rare Poncho that was basically fully destroyed up in the rustbelt - that someone held onto long enough that it finally became viable to resurrect completely. Its becoming more and more common and we all know it. A search in this section using "rosewood" will probably find when it was originally offered on eBay in its former crusty condition. They can't all be california clean, but most can be returned to close of that proximity with enough time and parts. Seller has mentioned it was brought back from the dead in the auction. No real mysteries when you add this all up. Will be a beautiful car. |

Thought I'd check on how this car is doing...saw he posted a pic of a "rosewood" car. had to laugh out loud! That's a pic of our own PY member goatff. He's a good friend and that color isn't even a 71 pontiac color IIRC. Funny. I sent the guy a message, we'll see if he posts it. Here's the location of a true Rosewood car:
http://www.pontiacsonline.com/2010%20GTOAA.htm Go about a 1/4 the way down. There are 3 pics of an original Rosewood car. Last pic is the best, showing the underside of the trunk. It's a beautiful color you don't see very often.

I also remember that car on ebay a few years back. Neat color for sure. I actually had a 1971 Stage 1 G.S. in that color. It looks brown in certain light. I think I was the only one that liked the color when I had it.
There was also a black 71 H.O. GTO hardtop out there a number of years ago that was originally rosewood in color. It was a nice lower mile car and I think the interior was even dyed black. |
