Default Smoke Signals Delivery

As you know, the U.S. Postal Service is having a rough time right now and the delivery of Periodical Class mail has been severely compromised as of late. We are working with the USPS to speed the delivery of Smoke Signals and help ensure that they are received in good condition.

If you would, please list here the delivery date of your copy of December's Smoke Signals, along with your ZIP code (ZIP+4 preferably), and the condition of the magazine. I received mine today in nearly perfect condition, a full ten days quicker than last month. Hopefully, the changes are starting to work.

Thanks for your help- I will be speaking with Postmaster General on Friday.

Yes, that is true but that deals mostly with First Class Mail. This is Periodical Class, formerly known as Second Class. Apparently, they are trying to improve that area because service is so bad. The sad part is, the "budget crunch" they are now experiencing is a $5.5 billion prepay on future retirements. No exaggeration, some of those retirements are for people who haven't been born yet. The USPS is the only government agency who is required to pay legacy costs in such a manner.

The upshot is that USPS came to us asking to help the situation and we put them in touch with our printer. They have been tracking the mailing process on us specifically. I'm not sure if we are the only ones being evaluated like this but we are a test case for the USPS. The December issue went out on November 29th and my copy arrived today in nearly perfect condition. That is 10 days quicker than last month and it was in better shape as well. I am asking that the POCI members here post their delivery results here so I have some real world data that they can use.

I know that the International members have it even rougher these days. I have been fighting that problem since I took the editorship of Smoke Signals 5 1/2 years ago. That is the main reason that we made a digital version available for download. It has since evolved into a nice service in it's own right and some members opt for a digital-only membership at a reduced right at $20 per year.

If it wasn't for Smoke Signals I'd have left POCI long ago. Which reminds me it's time to renew.

Tom, now that you've got the '63 the way you want it is it time to sell?

[QUOTE=63 Pontiac;4485280]If it wasn't for Smoke Signals I'd have left POCI long ago. Which reminds me it's time to renew.

We're glad you are sticking around. A lot of progress has been made at POCI and it is not the old boy network it once was. We are very welcoming of all Pontiacs, Oaklands and GMCs, regardless of year or condition. We are all automotive orphans now, so it is high time that the petty rivalries and differences be put aside and fans of all three marques come together. Things are looking up for the club and the Pontiac hobby in general.

I encourage all former members who left for whatever reason to take another look at POCI. The magazine is better, the Directors are very much on the ball and we are pushing into new digital territory with our digital and iPad versions of Smoke Signals, the POCI web site and our Facebook page. Give it a try, we are trying to reconnect with old friends from all areas of the Pontiac world.
