Default Blackened bearings

Upon engine teardown has anyone come across blackened rod & main bearings from a high mileage engine? would this be caused by the crank almost never seeing metal-to-metal contact?

Default Sounds like carbon build up/contaminated oil

Due to not changing the oil and/or the high mileage....
