Question Disc/Disc M/C Options

I am contemplating the addition of rear disc brakes on the T/A. I want to retain the stock look of the M/C and booster. What is the down side to this? Are there any makers of M/Cs that look stock but function with a disc/disc combo? What would that M/C require as far as bore size and stroke travel?

Use a MC- Booster and distribution valve from a 79/81 TA. They have stock 4 wheel disc.

Those years have a completely different looking booster set up. Not an option. Thanks!

The vette master cylinders from that era (C3 = '68 up) are made for 4 wheel discs, and they're more or less identical in appearance to most any GM master cylinders from that era,and they should bolt up to the existing booster no problemo.

So that vette MC should look pretty "stock" to 99% of folks out there.

All the power brake master cylinders from that era were all 1 1/8" bore,so that's NBD.

That would be the route I would go for a deal like that...

FWIW

The master out of a 79 T/A w/Rear disc looks like the traditional masters of T/A's past(cast Iron) in '80 or '81 not 100% sure which, master went to the separate plastic reservoir type.

The 79-80 4WD and the 81 4wd boosters are both dual diaphragm and have more assist and use LESS pedal leverage. They do look different but work well even with a lower vacuum at idle-mine has worked well even with only 9". The 79-80 used a 1 1/8" cast iron MC similar to the disc/drum only the disc/drumm had a residual pressure valve for the drums in the rear portion-otherwise looks similar. A 4WD '81 has a larger bore and thus needs a different booster due to being "quick take up" for the new "low drag" front calipers and is aluminum/plastic.Still a 1 1/8". The 79-80 would be one to look at also.

You can use the larger single diaphragm, just be sure and keep the correct pedal ratio.

The Vette one looks more like the earlier Camaro/Firebird/Chevelle units. They are available in 1" cast iron(or aluminum from Speedway), or a 1 1/8 for the "HD" brakes. Not sure how yours looks.
