Default Rearview mirror glass replacement?

For the inside rearview mirror has anyone had any luck replacing or restoring the glass. Mine has corrosion showing through from the backside. I'd like to replace the glass or repaint the backside.

Thanks,

Matt

The glass is not reproduced. You should try to find a nice and clean unit instead. I did polish the glass on mine, but wasnt able to get rid of the corrosion... I was through the glass.

The rear view mirror is repro; PY #GMI136A 50$. Dont know about the quality...

MescaBug, I was thinking about trying to save mine if no options were available. I guess I'm going to try and blaze a trail on that one.

If you are talking about the "mirror" surface itself. Troy Giles in Wisconsin has performed this task sucessfully I belive on his Judge. Perhaps he can guide you/us in the right direction or list his steps here for all to see.

Tim, I searched for Troy in the archives without luck. Do you have any contact information? Email, Phone, etc.

Thanks in advance,

-Matt

Hey guys. Yep, I did do this and it turned out great. Search in the Judges section and there are a few that contributed to the discussion of how to remove the glass. There are a few vendors that resilver the mirror that are also mentioned. My mirror looks brand new and was pretty rough to begin with.

Good luck,

Troy

*ps- I was going to resilver the mirror myself but the cost was so reasonable, it just did not make sense. I found the key to removing the glass from the plastic and the plastic from the stainless was making sure it was warm and pliable.

Tim:

I wish I was flicking flies at some brookies or browns, however, I managed to tear my tendons and bicep this spring. Another month of recovery before I can cast a rod. Thankfully, I should be ready to draw a bow before this fall.

I found the string in the Judges section but had trouble pasting the link in this section. Probably just me. I will try again.
