Ok, so i'm coming to the reality that I might have to sell this car. Don't ask-it involves a divorce with young children... Didn't want to post in the classified just yet, but need some input on what its worth. I have PHS documentation. The car does not have the original motor, tranny or rearend. It was purchased new in Dec of 68 in Pennsicola Fla and regeistered in Yuma Az in Dec of 69. My best guess is a member of the armed forces bought this car given the two destinations.
To the best of my knowledge, I've heard its one of around 334 Expresso Brown convertibles made in 69. Since it was a four speed it came with the 48 heads. It currently has a tired 73 455 in it with 6X heads and what I believe to be a wide ratio Muncie and a 10 bolt open 3.23 rear end. No rust, but needs a total restoration. Some other options that the car came with: A/C (code 582) covered headlights (code 414) gauge pkg (code 444) luggage lamp (code 652) safe-t-track (code 361) rear speakers (code 391) remote mirror (code 424) rally wheels (code 454) console (code 472) disc brakes (code 511) h/restraints (code 571) air clnr h/d (code 731) 4 spd trans (code 354) radio (code 382) strg whl-c/s (code 462) pwr strg w/tilt (code 501) mats-frt (code 631) mats rear (code 632) spg& shks (code 621) glass-s/r (code 531) I don't want to start any heated debates, but I'm looking for honest input as to the current market value of this car. Again, it needs a total restoration, but you can eat off the underside of it-one of the joys of living in Arizona... |

Not trying to start being negative but that color combo is going to hurt resale, along with the fact the original drivetrain is MIA. It's certainly loaded with options!
You noted there are only 334 Brown GTO Converts... there is a reason for that! Rare does not always mean desirable, that is the case here. I'm not in the market so take my opinion as just that... I think your car should be worth between 8000.00 and 12000.00. Good luck... sorry you have to sell!

I had a nicely restored expresso brown GTO and had trouble selling it. Most people just don't like that color. But with the missing drivetrain in yours, someone will probably buy it who is less worrried about original colors and numbers. With a tired 1973 engine in it now, I would guess it's worth $5,000-$6,000.

True. The right color on her, to match the interior... with a drop top and a 4 speed. If someone were looking for a cruiser... Would be a solid project. |

Since I do restorations, I know the value of rust free metal... I would not consider anything less than 8K. We just paid 4.5K for an Expresso Brown/Black project, no where near road worthy and not even close to the condition of this car.

I can't remember the last time I saw that car. They were playing the convertable card. I never remember it having nice paint on it. I think the 455 was put in there a long time ago.

There is a air base in Pensacola, that is the reason it must have been a fighter pilot. The pilots could afford the fancier cars.

I was told the owner from Yuma had passed on several years ago. I bought it in June of 2008. If I was able to keep it, Crystal Turquoise with either a black or parchment interior would have been my preference. I think its got some neat options. One that I have never seen is the rear speaker setup with a convertible???

That car might have had a few owners. I remember seeing it parked. When I saw it last it was still brown with Firebird snowflake wheels on it.

I would like to think that car would be worth $8-12k, but i bet it fetches closer to the $5-6k. Keep us updated if you sell.

I'll give 8,000.00 right now, sight unseen. Anyone that thinks this car isn't worth that is dead wrong.

Hey Paul, if you want someone to drive your rig out to AZ and get it for you, let me know! (It'll take a while for me to get back to the frozen north, however...)

To me, brown is never a desirable color. However, Expresso Brown is one of those colors that has a rich look to it, especially when paired with gold or white trim (I think black pushes it towards the ugly side). People who are into Judges don't turn their noses up at Expresso Brown, and if you check out the Chevy boards, you'll have a hard time finding someone who'd kick a Burnished Brown COPO out of bed. |
