Hello all:
Does anyone know the P/N for a good NGK plug which will fit the #64 heads? Thanks in advance, -Matt P.S. If anyone has a good suggestion for a decent dwell meter, that would be appreciated.

I have ordered plugs from this site before, and i believe their is a cross reference section here

IIRC, BPR6S or XR4 for v-power.

What size motor is this? For hot street/strip, I suggest Autolite 303 or the NGK BR6S. Both are one step colder than stock, which I think was Delco R45.

455/473C.I. street car. Thanks for the replies guys, it would appear that NGK has renumbered a lot of their parts, and the only ones I can locate are the BR6S's. The local NAPA could only produce a 6 digit part number for any NGK plugs???
Thanks again, -Matt

More than likely NAPA corporate is the one responsible for that confusion. And your parts guy is probably just not aware of that fact,or just does'nt care. In my previous experience as a parts counter person, and as a dealership parts guy,I can safely say that the guys that work behind the counter @ most large scale retail chains are largely clueless, that's not to say that from time to time there are'nt any good/decent/helpful parts guys out there, but 75-80% have no business working behind a parts counter. And when it comes to crossing over part numbers,or dealing with anything that's not in their computers, those very same guys will just "buckle" and cough out the first BS excuse they can to get out of dealing with that customer, instead of taking the time to crack open a hard copy catalog to find what is needed. And honestly,it's not always their fault either, have known more than one parts manager that would blow thier stack if you took too long helping just one customer out with a slightly difficult part problem, they'd pi$$ & moan that they dont care about those sales, they only worry about the high volume sales,in & out/wham bam thank you ma'm sorta service is what those managers wanna see. Sometimes you just gotta find a place that knows what they're doing and cares about customer service. FWIW Bret P. |

I had the same thing happen. I had to go to sparkplugs.com and find the NGK stock number for the B8S plug I wanted. AdvanceAuto could find it with the "3810" stock number but not "B8S", go figure...
Like Bret says, you gotta find the guy behind the counter that knows the tricks of how to find stuff.

Looks like the XR5 or stock# 3332 should work fine for you.

Thanks guys, according to NGK the BP5S, etc. numbers are obsolete and reference to a newer "V-Power" number such as VR-4, -6 etc., or an iridium plug number. Evidently, the NGK numbers have changed somewhat since I last shopped for plugs.

Matt....stop by the house. I have an old school Sears PENSKE dwell meter if you need it. I also use the NGK "V-power" plugs too.

NGK's Part Finder lists two plugs for these heads (application I used was a '70 GTO 455).
V-Power = XR4; stock number 5858 Iridium IX = XR4IX; stock number 7189 |
