28 degrees timing? That's all? I would think it would want more running methanol.

Thumbs up

Goat, Methanol fuel versus gasoline will generate plenty of debate on the torque differences but on this one we did not try any back to back tests to compare. On this engine combination we broke it in on gasoline and made 3 short pulls. Break-in was settling in nicely so we changed over to methanol for the remainder of the tests.

J.C. Block was hand picked from the stash, checked for core shift and grouted but no sleeves. Block is a 1974 model

Brian We started at 34 degrees adjusted to 36 then dropped progressively to 28 based on the test results.

mystic Headers are out of the box Heddmans (Milt should have the part number) with a few tweaks on the flange to get bolt holes and ports to line up. We were pleasantly surprised they fit the 901 dyno frame. They fit in a 65 GTO with minor work to A frames. Milt can describe exactly what he did.

This engine was built for a new 10.5 class called OEM Street. Extensive rule structure but the main factor is stock OEM block, OEM iron heads (restricted list with no performance heads allowed such as HO, SD, SCJ Fords, rectangle port BB Chevys, etc.), solid flat tappet cam, off the shelf parts basically...and a spec Nitrous Kit (+/-200HP jet/solenoid). Mainly trying to keep costs down and participation up.

We have small and big Chevys, a 351 Cleveland and now Medicine Man is the HP king. The last BBC made 777HP.

Now if we could talk Milt into a 4 Spd.

Great work Jim (as per usual)

Do you think the timing requirements (low) were as a result of the Methanol or possibly the compact chamber (assume minor milling to get to 13:1 ??)

The team of Milt, Mark and I are responsible for this one...From all of us...Thanks for the kind words.

OEMstreet.com is the website. Quite a few rules to try to keep the richest guy from annihilating the field...We will see who shows up. Hope the economy does not kill it.

These are not the #48s pictured on my website. I ported these for Milt a few years ago and tweaked them a bit recently. 45 degree seat on int and exh. Stainless pushrod tube in original location with relatively thin port wall in places. Still looking for flow sheet. Pics attached.

The small chambers with minimal surface area seem to like minimal timing. The big chevys ran best at 38 degrees...big piston dome and lots of chamber surface and 25-30 cfm more flow than these heads. Chevys are down on torque compared to this one with similar prep/specifications.

Great numbers on that combo with a non roller cam. Oem street class looks interesting only d-ports allowed for Pontiacs. This engine should do well.

Jim, where will this class be running and who is in charge? We possibly could do a race this year at Thunder Road with the outlaw crowd.
