Default Did you serve in the US military? If so, where and when?

Thought it would be interesting to see who here spent time in the military; hope I'm not duplicating a previous thread.

I spent four years in the Marine Corps; 1977 - 1981; Air-Wing, GSE. Boot camp in San Diego; school in Memphis TN; OJT in Beaufort SC; one year on The Rock, Okinawa Japan. My last year and a half at MCAS Tustin CA, helicopter base. So many stories... always a good time!

USAF, 1987-1991. I was an airborne radar technician on the AWACS. I was stationed at Tinker AFB in Beeee-Utiful Oklahoma City, OK. I was in Desert Storm for a bit. Got to go to a few cool places. If I wasn't such a dumbass, I'd have stayed in and be collecting a pension check right now.

This was my crew in Desert Storm. I'm in the front row, 4th from the right.

Great time all around, even considering Desert Storm was in there for a while.

US Army 1968-70
I volunteered for the draft so only had to enlist for 2 years. Spent a year in Nam walking point with a german shepard with the 47th Scout Dog Platoon. I was the luckiest SOB in the 101st, no purple hearts. Got a five month drop to go back to school when I returned to the world so I only did 19 months and 23 days.
Although I despised that war I'm proud now that I went. It was the single most memorable period in my 62 years.

I was also stationed in Albany, Ga. But, it had been turned over to the Navy and was called N.A.S. Albany. They still had the B-52s when I was there in 1970-71. In 1969 I went to Great lakes for boot camp. Then to Lakehurst, N.J. for school. From there I went to Albany. From Albany to Adak, Alaska. Next I went to N.A.S. LeMoore, Ca. and from there to the Gulf of Tonkin on the Enterprise, CVAN-65. Got out in 1973 and moved back to the Albany, Ga. area and have been here ever since.
