Default Under rated guitarists

After seeing the thread re Hendrix / Van Halen. I got to thinking these guys are mainstream publisher pushed public figures.

Who're some underrated musicians in your opinion?

Traci Gunn From La Guns in my opinion is way underrated.

Keith Richards, Hank Williams Jr. Willie Nelson, the late Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban are just a few that come to mind for me, along with Vince Gill, Roy Clark and Chet Atkins.

Problem is one guys most under-rated is often gonna be the next guys most over-rated.

I know this, there are a whole lotta under-rated rhythm guitarists out there.

They often carry the bulk of their bands songs, and yet they let most all the glory go the the other "shredders" who step in just to lay down a mean solo.

Guys like Scott Ian from Anthrax come to mind with regards to that phenomenon.

Max Cavalera (Sepultura/soulfly) fits that description too.

Anyhow, some guitarists that I would say are under-rated:
Tommy Victor (prong/ministry)
Page Hamilton (Helmet)
Stephen Carpenter (Deftones)
Buzz Osborne (Melvins)
Michael Schenker (Scorpions/UFO/MSG)
Dave Meniketti (Y&T)
Ronnie Montrose
Pat Travers

Just to name a few.

It's not always the guys that get all the glory, but the guys that influenced a bunch of younger guitarists along the way that fall into this catagory.

And you can often see how all that has trickled down thru the years.
