Nice project for someone looking for a very low mileage, fully documented, numbers matching car. |

I just have to ask....why was it taken all apart with only 38,000 miles on it? Bad paint? (If you were going for "show" quality then I guess I understand)
The motor & trans shouldn't need anything yet unless it was neglected. Price ?

If you click on the link he posts in the craigslist ad, read the last hand written entry on the motor in the owner's log book. The entry above it is about how well the car ran in a burnout contest!

The body was taken down due to major rust in the A and C pillars as well as a little in the quarters. Donor sheet metal was used where available and repro quarter skins and trunk pan were also used. A pillars were replaced with 100% donor metal. The floors are solid. The reason that the car was laid up in 1985 was due to cylinder pressure loss in #7. My speculation is that the car was sold in 1999 or 2000 to the third owner, who subsequently got the car running and promptly broke the #7 rod. It took a .060 overbore to clear the cylinder wall scoring. All machine work on the engine has been completed. It just need a kit and put back together. The heads also were gone through and rebuilt.
Three years ago when the major metal work was completed ($14,000 worth of it), and we put the web page together, the economy was still doing well. At that time, $18,000 wasn't so unreasonable to ask for a car that has $21,000 invested in it. Today, I'll take $12,500 for it. Thanks, Matt |

I see on the build sheet that it came with a cordova top ? If so you must have the moldings for that.

Castillian Bronze with a sandalwood interior and sandalwood V-Top would be a beautiful car.

Was this car ever advertised for sale in Hemmings 15 - 20 yrs ago?
When I was still living outside Charlotte (more than 18 yrs ago), I was talking with a guy in LA about a 70 Formula 4-spd that had engine damage. At the time, I had a 70 Ram IV motor and had the bug to put it in a 70 Formula. I believe the car was bronze or gold, and had rust under the vinyl roof. I don't remember how I found the number, but I had a complete set of photos of the car. In the end, I decided Louisianna was too far to drive. Mike |

I have not idea if this car was advertised in Hemming's that long ago. I've only had the car for a little over 5 years. If it was in Hemming's back then, it would have been done by the second owner, whom I've not been able to locate. But judging from your description, it very well could be the same car. I'd be interested to see the pictures that you got, if you've still got them. Thanks for your interest, Matt |
