'70 Gp J & SJ
Anybody have production break down for J and SJ's? I sure manual was a low number and I know there was 65K+ total with 272 SSJ's.

5585 total SJ's in 1970.
206 total manual cars, 199 4-speed & 7 3-speed. No breakdown between J and SJ though. Grant |

The manual trans figures above were for all 455 cars only by the way.
Also, 121 of those had a/c. Grant |

Great looking car.
Just don't let someone pull out in front of you or it could look like this. I had just had the Trans rebuilt and new tires. About 1 month or less. I sure miss that car.

A friend of mine has an original '70 SJ 4 speed 455 HO stored away that he bought in 1972. Used to race it at Bradenton and run consistent 13.90 with it. Silver with black inside. Has the hood tach and even the 8 track mounted behind the console.

BOP Collector where are you located? I am in Winter Haven and have a 69 SJ 4spd. Would love to see your friends 70 SJ 4 speed some time. You can PM me your contact info - maybe we can hook up? Would also like to see your new GP...Steve

I'm still stunned that this car is sitting in my barn. This is one of those too good to be true stories, the way it was told to me was that car was bought new in Los Angeles and driven untill '81 when, if I got this correct, the husband passed and the car sat for the last 29 years in a garage in Cerritos CA. The person I bought the car from was a realtor who had been hired to clean out the house and list it, they were given the car for the clean-up fee and had only had it registered for 2 months. It's in amazing condition, like a time capsule. Couldn't resist swapping the rally's from the '69.

Looks great! Thats pretty much the story I got on the car too. Looked like a nice solid original car. He claimed it was original paint, but I didn't think so looking at some of the pictures he sent to me. Those body side molding look like the stick-on type... if so, hopefully they will come off with a heat gun. Nice car, you did well!

I am not far from you. I have seen your car at the Plant City show a few times. You have the blue SJ 4 speed car, right? My friend is in St Pete and his GP is in a semi trailer and not very easy to look at. I last saw his car about 14 years ago. He used to have a lot of GP's but got rid of them over the years. He had a triple black, very loaded '69 SJ with 428 HO automatic. Even had real leather seats. He boned it out. First to go was the #48 heads and long branch manifolds. That was foolish. I have been trying to get him to open up the storage trailer so we could see the '70.

Funny you should mention those moldings Grant, gone! That was one of the first things I wanted off before hitting it with the buffer. It has had a respray at some point and they did a great job, but you can find where they didn't mask the chrome good in spots and it wasn't jambed which is good because it shows me the color match is great. The moldings were stuck on the respray paint and I see why now, the lines are damn straight.

Looks great Steve! Taking those moldings off would have been the first thing I would have done as well. Makes the car look so much nicer. Sounds like a nice respray and not some el'cheapo job, thats good! Please keep the pictures coming as you do more...
