77 GP tire size ??
I want to put bigger tires on my 77 GP, it has 15 x 7 rally wheels. I'm looking at 255/60/15 firestone firehawk Indy 500 tires, anyone run this size on a GP. They are about the same height as the tires on my car (225/70/15) they are just wider . It looks like there is enough room for them ? Does anyone think these are to big for the car ??

I run 255/60/15's on a 15x7 factory rim on my 1964 GTO with a 70's vintage 12 bolt (about 1 inch wider than the original rearend) and they tuck inside the rear wheel wells fine. I would think that they would fit a GP ok.
But when I replace the current tires on the rear, I'll back down to a 245/60/15 - because I don't like the bulging sidewall look with the 7" rims. If you had 15x8 rims on the rear - 255's would be fine - IMHO. I know they don't make the Firestone in a 245/60 - but the BFG Radial T/A's come in that size. Only .5" difference in tire height, so only a .25" difference in ride height. |
