Default Found a '74 GTO

Ok, so I have known about this car for a while but did not go see it or talk to the guy until yesterday afternoon. This is what I can tell you about the car as far as i know at this point:

2 owner car, all original; current owner purchased it in 1975
Original color is blue with white interior; is now black with white interior
has been off the road for 10-15 + years
hatchback
steel wheels with chrome rings and center caps that say "Disc Brakes"
455 with Auto Transmission
Still resides on the polyglas tires

This car is rough, needing a complete rebuild. Both front fenders, the roof, all floor boards are rusted. He indicates that he has the roof section to replace the rotted one and also has the GTO emblems from GM. the motor has not run in 10 years and the car has not moved for at least 15. i have a feeling that this guy has been watching too many BJ auctions as he thinks this car is worth a firtune, even though he would not comment when I asked him what he was expecting to get for it.

I know it is hard to get an idea without pictures but I will try to get some this week when he is not home.

So, my question is, how much is this thing worth?

There's a one on Craigslist for $1500 with no motor or tranny (new metal on it though). Front fenders are a pain to find. Doesn't have the original motor. I wouldn't pay too much more than that for it.

I may have been wrong originally about the motor/tranny combo. I did not know anything about them when I first looked at it so it might be the original 350; the guy kept telling me that it was an original "big block 455".

I'm no authority on '74 GTOs, but I am thinking that Rally wheels were not OEM with beauty rings on the GTO that year. Could have been dealer installed via customer request, I suppose.
"Disc Brakes" embossed on the center caps? I don't recall ever seeing that. Are they the stainless light weight ones? I believe the pot metal with acrylic medallion style were pre-1973. I would like to see a pic.

Yeah, they are not Rally wheels, just steel wheels with a center cap, almost like a poverty cap. I will try and get a picture by next week.

Ahhhh, I see. That muddies the water even further.
Again, not positive, but I think Rally IIs (without rings) were standard issue on '74 GTO. Lots can be changed in 30+ years though.

FWIW 14x7 standard steelies could be ordered on Ventura up to at least 1977. I worked with a bodyman who ordered a '77 Ventura with 14x7 wheels. He had them on a a '76 Camaro he was modding, When I asked him about them.

I have decided to let this one go as it needs to much work. I may have found a 1981 Trans Am to replace my 1979 though.
