Default Alternator re-finish

Guys,

This eye catching feature on my engine needs spruced up this spring.

Eastwood has this "Detail Grey" paint for detailing the alternator; about $20 to my door though. Has anyone found an acceptable shade from a parts store that I'd be more apt to buy?

Plastikote, Duplicolor, or a NAPA brand?

I would try to find a cast aluminum color for the body and use the detail grey (natural metal color) for the fan and pulley to give it some contrast.

If you are going to take the alternator apart to paint it, why not get it bead blasted?

Gonna remove pulley and fan then wire brush it, wipe down using laquer thinner, spray bare metal with a couple light coats of the paint.

I'll look at those two slightly contrasting colors at NAPA. They have pretty good selections usually.

Thanks.

Oh, I didn't really wanna get into tearing it down; potential for problems.

Just me.

If you are going the spray bomb route, you can find a high heat cast aluminum engine paint which looks pretty decent. Think it was Dupli-Color, but may be Plasti-Kote. Usually found at Napa or Advance in the Engine Paint rattle can section.

Duplicolor has a high heat aluminum engine paint that looks close to the silver-cad plating for the fan and pully. Not bad for 4 bucks!
