Default How do I pull my 67's instrument panel out?

Hi guys,

I know this is a stupid question, but I can's seem to get the instument panel out of my '67 hardtop with A/C.
I want to redo some stuff, so I need to take it out.
The dashpad is off.
I disconnected the A/C cable and most of the wiring, like the lights, ignition swith, heater.
The panel comes foreward a but, but then it's stuck between the column and metal upper dash piece.

Some how I can't get the whole unit out of the dash.
Do I need to take it apart in the car or can I take it out as a whole unit?

I've lowered the steering column (3 bolts), but it doesn''t want to be lowered at all.
Other GM cars I could just drop the column, but this one just drops 2 to 3 inches if I pull it down.

Any help on on the right procedure would be great.

And a happy new year y'all!!!!

erik

redDirt Road:

If it is over by the yellow wire lead for radio, it is heater power lead. If it is more on the left side it is power accessary. It is used, if you want to say add a electric choke.

yes its by the yellow radio wire.
I have factory A/C so I assume I dont use this? My A/C wiring plugs into another connector. I assume this connector is used with no air?

The brown wire is the power for your AC. This connector is used with or without air.

Default Dash

If you have everything disconnected ...
There is a Support Bracket (ground bracket)
Right above the steering column. connects to the back of the speedo housing, it's just above right next to speedo cable. ...
When I was pulling mine out... it just didn't want to come out.....
Then I found the bracket, after I disconnected the bracket, the entire assy., came right out....
Hope this help's....

Default speedometer support bracket: 67 all tempest, lemans and GTOs.

Here are some photos of the bracket just in case anybody out there is wondering what it looks like, it is nearly impossible to view from underneath the dash! My photos show it attached to the gauge housing. The other end of the brace rides in a groove that is just above where the brake pedal pivots. The bolt goes in from underneath. You have to drop down or remove the steering column to see the bolt.

Not to hijack the thread, but thank you. I wasn't sure what the power heater lead looked like, I only know it's not connected. Now if we can get out of this Arctic snap, maybe I will try fumbling around under the dash!
