Sending unit help...
Hello,
I have a 66 Bonneville Station Wagon. The sending unit is leaking badly and needs completely replaced (the metal tubes rotate freely). I can find the unit for a sedan, but not for a wagon. Are there any interchangable sending units that will work on my 66 wagon? Or does anyone have a source for a sending unit for my car? Thanks very much for your help, John Thomas |

John...I had mine rebuilt for my 66 Bonneville and it works real well. I used a guy named Jack Marcheski, 100 Dry Creek Rd., Hollister, CA 95023-5166. It cost about $85.00. His phone number is 831 637-3453. He doesn't have a web site. Jack is all business, does good work and is very quick on his service.

Try RobbMc. I think they will recondition your old one if they don't have a new one for you.

Sending unit for what? Oil pressure? Engine temp? Fuel level?

I just had my fuel sending unit done by Jack and it was $120. I am sure he can fix the one you have. I would give him a call and he will work with you. Very nice to deal with and fast turn around time. Pat

Ditto on Jack Marcheski. The day he recieves it, it will be repaired and back in the mail to you. He has done a few for me.

This was shipped back to me also. Shipping was around $14 out to him from me. He converted mine from the canister type to a swing arm like the GTO used so that could be some of the cost there.
I have not run the car much to see how well every thing is working but it is alot better than nothing I had before. Pat |

I have seen an E-Bay seller selling new ones but for non-air cars only, which is sounds like wont work for you.

I think that you can modify an non A/C sender to be an A/C sender.

Fuel sending unit is correct. Sorry for the confusion.

If so, they were in the same price range as the rebuilds.

Just out of curiosity. Why are the fuel sending units different on a non AC car and an AC car? What is the difference. There is nothing at or on the fuel tank that would change with AC.

Rock,
The A/C cars have a fuel return line - non-A/C cars do not. |

Shouldn't take a rocket scientist to add a return port to the plate, right?

Why does a carbureted car need a return line, Matt?

No, but it DOES take a competent BRAZER with access to the proper tube (with the bulge at the end)!

I think they did that to minimize fuel percolation since uneeded warm fuel is returned to the cooler remaining fuel in the tank. Other reasons may exist...others, please advise if so!
