Default Best Aluminum rad?

468 on my '68 'bird. It runs right around 190 in the summer while moving. On occassion, when in stop and go traffic, in 90 degree weather, she'll approach 120+... then I shut her down.

I've done all the usual water pump, upper rad hose, a/c baffle stuff. I have a 19" clutch fan I am going to try but, I'm thinkn' the 4 core brass/copper rad(fresh re core) just can't cool this larger engine.

Whats the best aluminum rad out there?

if you want factory stock looks in aluminum:

http://www.alumitechreproductions.com/44.html?sm=2764 (just put "Firebird" in the search box at top, the discount requires it be bought online)

Here is a post on how to save $100 during the month of December on Alumitech radiators, they have to be $495 in price or higher but that should apply to the Firebird radiator as it's priced at $495, the discount code is tcxmass:

I purchased one from our sponsors (PY) and it fit good in my 75 TA. It also solved my cooling problem on my 505 CI motor with stock fan.

Be Cool makes great stuff. They are all-welded construction. Some others are glued together and if they spring a leak, you have to throw them away.

If the car cools good enough while moving, your radiator may be fine. If it overheats (only) in stop & go or slow speed, that's usually a sign that your fan isn't moving enough air. You didn't say what kind of fan you have now. A factory clutch fan pulls more air than a flex fan. Adding an auxiliary electric fan is another option.

Hope this helps,
Eric

Check out Allstar Performance Triple pass Alum. radiators. been using one for the past 4 years. awsome product for half the price. Side by side looks like the high priced brand.

Alumiteh for that stock look. I had Don build me a couple custom radiators for my 61 and 63 tempest. They made a big difference and were worth the money and peace of mind.

I use Griffin radiators in both my 69 GTO and 72 Formula and they have been great too.

When you changed your pump did you look at the seals between the pump and timing cover? And the divider plates?? These can corrode and leak causeing bad water flow in the system. And are cheaper than a new rad if they are the culprit.

I have a Griffin radiator. NO complaints other that the lower hose is on an angle pointing towards the engine and up. Took me awhile and with some help from other PY members got the correct hose.

I have the MARK VIII fan. Slow speed on a temp sensor in the intake. comes on at 190*-ish, High speed is on a toggle switch.

Honestly, I had the car out yesterday in 25* weather, the car ran too cold. Would not come up to temp unless I was beating on her up hill.

I was drinking Eagle Rare 10 year bourbon when I read that.
(long morning)

It's now stinging my nose. Good call.

No!!!! Those where there to hold it when I was making the brackets. I needed it as tight as possible so I could measure.

Yeah.

WWW.Mark7radiators.com is whom I would reccomend for the very best in performance and quality in an aluminum radiator. They also offer them in an anodized finish for maintance free appearance in a rainbow of colors. These WILL outperform any Be Cool, Rodney Red, Griffin, Alumatech, etc... The Mark 7's have two 1 14/ tubes in the core and the others very best units only have two 1" tubes. You certainly get what you pay for in a Mark 7.

I also have a radiator that has the lower connection pointing up. What is the part number for the correct hose and where did you get it?

Thanks

You can get a Griffin for under $180 if you shop around.

Well the part number is different all over the place. I did use the NAPA part number of NBH 7293. But another PY member (cant remember his name! Darn it!!) gave me the type to use.

1969 Chevrolet Pick- up C10
307 Engine
with A/C.

Turn it upside down, and trim to fit. It is like it was made for this application.

I'm not sure either of these links will work, because I had to put my zip code in.
